Please utilize this page as a resource to review communications shared with Parents and Caregivers
in regards to COVID-19 related information during the 2021-2022 school year.

The COVID-19 Dashboard provides the number of active/confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in a
14 day time span and the total historical confirmed positive cases.

Beginning Monday September 20th all students at York Tech must wear a mask to attend school.

We are requesting that you respect our obligation as a Pennsylvania public school to comply with the PA Department of Health masking order issued Tuesday August 31st that went into effect September 7th.  We have provided ample notification to comply with this order.

On Sept 2nd, students and families were informed of the order and the procedure to request a 504 plan with the student’s doctor’s recommendation to be in place by Friday September 17th.

We want to thank all the students and families who are following the PA Department of Health’s masking order and helping us keep everyone safe at York Tech.

This Order is not a mask optional policy.

Any school entity simply permitting a parent's sign-off without evidence that the student has a medical or mental health condition or disability that precludes the wearing of a face covering is not in compliance with the Order. Under the Order, and as set forth in PDE's Answers to FAQs, school entities must require all individuals, two years of age and older, to wear face coverings unless the individual has a medical or mental health condition or disability that precludes the wearing of a face covering. In accordance with Section 3 of the Order, before an individual is excepted from the Order, all alternatives to a face covering, including a face shield, are to be exhausted. It is recommended that any exception be in accordance with eligibility under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act or IDEA for such medical or mental health condition or disability. School entities should follow their established processes for determining student eligibility under those laws, including any medical documentation that they would normally require. There are exceptions to the Order; however, a parent's opposition to the Order is not one of them.

We want to thank the overwhelming majority of students who are following the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s masks order to keep our students safe.  There have been some questions regarding process for medical accommodations related to the order.  Below is York Tech’s procedure for students requesting medical accommodations related to the order:

York Tech’s practice regarding accommodations related to disabilities is to convene a 504 team meeting to determine eligibility for a 504 plan.  In order to receive an accommodation to the masking order parents must provide documentation from the student’s health care provider indicating that the student is under that health care provider’s care, has a medical condition limiting the use of face coverings and have recommendations from the health care provider for specific accommodations.  Documentation from the student’s health care provider should be submitted to the student’s counselor by Friday, September 17.  Once the documentation is received, a 504 team meeting will be convened.  Students will be asked to comply fully with the masking order until the 504 process is completed.

This is a reminder to all students, parents, and caregivers that the Pennsylvania Department of Health masking order is being followed at York Tech.

All students need to wear a mask to attend classes.

If a student has a disability or medical condition that warrants the need under the provisions of a section 504 plan please contact the student’s counselor.

We want to thank the overwhelming majority of students who are cooperating with this order from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Thank you.

Please read the complete message below, regarding the Pennsylvania mask order.

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, Governor Wolf issued a mask order for all K-12 schools and child care facilities to protect against the spread of COVID-19. The order will go into effect Tuesday, September 7, 2021. The order requires face coverings to be worn at all times by students, staff, and visitors upon entering the York County School of Technology building. All students are still required to continue wearing a face covering while on the school bus.

  • The Order is a “control measure” issued pursuant to authority granted to the Department of Health under the Disease Prevention and Control Law, 35 P.S. Section 521.5.

  • The Order requires all teachers, students, staff and visitors to wear a face covering indoors at school, unless an exception applies, and further requires schools to enforce the Order’s requirements.

The mask order applies to all students, staff, and visitors within the York Tech building regardless of vaccination status.

Masks may only be removed:

  • If wearing a face covering causes or exacerbates a medical condition. (With Doctor confirmation and a 504 plan in place.)

  • While eating, drinking, or playing an instrument that would be obstructed by a face covering.

  • While participating in P.E. class, if able to maintain a distance of six feet from others and in a well-ventilated location.

  • During sports practice or events.

  • While outside on school grounds.

Face coverings fall under the dress code guidelines. YCST’s student dress code requires students to wear school-approved spirit wear, which is devoid of messaging.  Therefore, students will not be permitted to wear any face coverings with writing, logos or other expressive messages – with the exception of the YCST provided face mask.  Students may wear face masks that are solid colors, patterns or prints, so long as they do not contain any messaging. This face covering rule is consistent with the current dress code requirements for students while at school. For more information regarding dress code guidelines, please refer to your student handbook.

York Tech will continue to follow the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Pennsylvania Department of Education administrative orders requiring face coverings in schools. York Tech is committed to the health and safety of all students and employees and protecting our school community from COVID-19.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we continue to stay safe to stay open.

Thank you,

York County School of Technology
