Carpentry

Overview

The Carpentry program covers the major aspects of residential and light commercial construction as well as a variety of remodeling functions. Students will work with a diverse array of building and finishing materials in order to become familiar with proper methods. Training is given using hand tools, power tools, and other portable equipment. Onsite and offsite construction projects are incorporated into the classroom instruction.

Uniform

Students at York Tech are required to wear a uniform. Upper garments (shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) must be purchased through the school's Tech Gear Store. Lower apparel and safety equipment varies by program. The specific uniform requirements for Carpentry can be downloaded using this link, and the YTech X uniform requirements can be found at this link.


Students who are accepted into the Carpentry, Construction Trades, Electrical Occupations, and HVAC programs must wear the Construction Rotation uniform shirt during the first marking period of their first year. Afterward, they may purchase program-specific uniform items. Refer to the What to Expect section (below) for more details.

There are many career opportunities for students graduating from York Tech's Carpentry program.

What to Expect

Students interested in this program will take courses in Carpentry, Construction Trades, Electrical Occupations, and HVAC for the first marking period. After the first marking period, students will apply for full-time entrance into one of the four programs, and they will be accepted based on merit and other criteria. Students who are not approved for their first choice will be assigned to one of the other three programs included in the rotation.
