Overview

This program provides the foundation to be successful when working at a childcare facility or beginning a four-year teacher certification program. Students will focus on the key elements of early childhood education and K-12 teaching principles, such as developmentally appropriate educational strategies for infants through high school, K-12 certification requirements, educational psychology, child development, school safety and health issues, and much more. Students also earn some of the 480 hours of training required to apply for a Child Development Associate Credential and can earn up to seven credits in the field of education for college.

Foundational careers are those that can usually be obtained immediately after high school with the industry-recognized certifications earned at York Tech. Technical careers typically require the industry-recognized certifications earned at York Tech plus a two-year associates degree. What to Expect

The Education Pathway program is a standalone program that does not rotate with any others. Depending on when they enroll at York Tech, students will spend either three or four years alternating each semester between learning about early childhood education and K-12 teaching development.

Uniform

Students at York Tech are required to wear a uniform at all times. While in their shop classes, they must wear the uniform designated by the program instructor. At all other times, students may wear their shop uniform OR York Tech apparel, which is sold through the School Store and the Fan Shop. Please review the Student Handbook for a full explanation of the dress code.
