Spartan Jam 2025

Overview

We are excited to welcome new Spartans into the York Tech community! As part of our orientation activities, we will be conducting New Student Day and Spartan JAM on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, for all new students entering Grades 9-10. These students will be transported to York Tech via the regular bus schedule. 

Itinerary

The day will be broken into two parts. In the morning, students will meet new friends and prepare for a successful school year by participating in our Spartan JAM program. The second part of the day will include a complete schedule walk through, which will give students opportunities to interact with their teachers and classmates.

Upon arrival, students will report to their technical area for a light breakfast, important document and material distribution, and an overview of the day’s schedule. (Faculty and staff will help students locate their technical areas.) Afterward, students will report to their assigned classrooms to meet their Spartan JAM leaders and teammates.

Purpose

Spartan JAM is a high-energy learning adventure during which the Class of 2029 (along with new students entering Grade 10) will gain an experiential understanding of collaboration, communication, trust and support, creative problem solving, effective decision making, and leading and following. Students will be divided into teams and complete a large number of fun activities. Teams find ways to manage time, work together, value differences, utilize resources, and celebrate successes.

Lunch

At the conclusion of Spartan JAM and prior to the schedule walk through, students will be provided a school lunch, issued their school laptop (if they did not already receive it during Back-to-School Night), and participate in a gallery walk of all the sports and clubs York Tech has to offer. Lunch will be free of charge for all students, and an alternate choice will be available for those with special dietary restrictions.

Preparation

In order to prepare for the activities planned, we ask students to:

• Wear closed-toe, active footwear/sneakers and weather-appropriate pants. While shorts are a violation of the York Tech dress code during the school year, they are permitted on Aug. 19.

• Wear the free Spartan JAM shirt. Students who do not pick up their shirt at Back-to-School Night will receive one on Aug. 19.

Closing

It is our hope that students will use the lessons learned on this day and become a valuable contributor to the positive learning environment at York Tech. Additionally, new students will be comfortable and motivated to begin the year after gaining a clear understanding of what it means to be a York Tech Spartan.

Resumen

¡Nos entusiasma dar la bienvenida a los nuevos Spartans a la comunidad de York Tech! Como parte de nuestras actividades de orientación, el martes 19 de agosto de 2025 celebraremos el Día del Nuevo Estudiante y el Spartan JAM para todos los nuevos estudiantes que ingresan a 9.º y 10.º grado. El transporte a York Tech se realizará en el horario habitual de autobús.

Itinerario

El día se dividirá en dos partes. Por la mañana, los estudiantes conocerán nuevos amigos y se prepararán para un año escolar exitoso participando en nuestro programa Spartan JAM. La segunda parte del día incluirá un recorrido completo por el horario, que les brindará la oportunidad de interactuar con sus profesores y compañeros.

A su llegada, los estudiantes se dirigirán a su área técnica para disfrutar de un desayuno ligero, la distribución de documentos y materiales importantes y una descripción general del programa del día. (El profesorado y el personal los ayudarán a ubicar sus áreas técnicas). Posteriormente, se dirigirán a sus aulas asignadas para reunirse con sus líderes y compañeros de Spartan JAM.

Propósito

Spartan JAM es una dinámica aventura de aprendizaje donde la Generación 2029 (junto con los nuevos estudiantes que ingresan a 10.º grado) adquirirá una comprensión experiencial de la colaboración, la comunicación, la confianza y el apoyo, la resolución creativa de problemas, la toma de decisiones efectiva y el liderazgo y el seguimiento. Los estudiantes se dividirán en equipos y realizarán una gran cantidad de actividades divertidas. Los equipos encontrarán maneras de gestionar el tiempo, trabajar juntos, valorar las diferencias, utilizar recursos y celebrar los éxitos.

Almuerzo

Al finalizar Spartan JAM y antes del recorrido por el horario, se les proporcionará a los estudiantes un almuerzo escolar, se les entregará su computadora portátil (si no la recibieron durante la Noche de Regreso a Clases) y participarán en una visita guiada por todos los deportes y clubes que ofrece York Tech. El almuerzo será gratuito para todos los estudiantes y se ofrecerá una opción alternativa para quienes tengan restricciones dietéticas especiales.

Preparación

Para prepararse para las actividades planificadas, les pedimos a los estudiantes que:

• Usen calzado deportivo cerrado y pantalones adecuados para el clima. Si bien los pantalones cortos infringen el código de vestimenta de York Tech durante el año escolar, están permitidos el 19 de agosto.

• Usen la camiseta gratuita de Spartan JAM. Los estudiantes que no recojan su camiseta en la Noche de Regreso a Clases recibirán una el 19 de agosto.

Clausura

Esperamos que los estudiantes apliquen las lecciones aprendidas este día y se conviertan en personas valiosas que contribuyen al ambiente de aprendizaje positivo en York Tech. Además, los nuevos estudiantes se sentirán cómodos y motivados para comenzar el año después de comprender claramente lo que significa ser un Spartan de York Tech.
