< Back Athletics Highlights Congratulations to our boys' cross country team and two members of the girls' cross country team for earning spots in the PIAA District III Cross Country Championships! The boys' team performed well during the qualifying meet, considering it was their first time competing at such a high level against the largest schools in District III. Despite a tough course and strong winds, several runners earned personal records. Additionally, the two members of the girls' cross country team, sophomores Piper Degges and Isabel Waight-Alvarado, showed why the squad is in good hands for years to come. Their inspired running against a stacked field will make them stiff competition during Districts. < Back FAFSA Nights Current York Tech seniors and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend a free, virtual financial aid (FAFSA) informational event AND one of two in-person FAFSA financial aid completion nights. These sessions are geared toward York Tech seniors who plan to attend college and would like to apply for financial assistance from the federal government. The two in-person events will be held in York Tech's Media Center. Below is a list of the dates and times for each event. Virtual Financial Aid (FAFSA) Info Session Oct. 16, 2024, 6-7:30 p.m. (Registration Link ) In-Person FAFSA Completion Night #1 Dec. 18, 2024, 6 p.m. (Register by Dec. 12) In-Person FAFSA Completion Night #2 Jan. 16, 2025, 6 p.m. (Register by Jan. 10) Space is limited for the in-person events, so those interested in attending must register in advance by the aforementioned deadlines using the provided links. Please note that one student and one parent or caregiver must attend the event, and attendance is limited to one of the two in-person events. Computers will be provided during each in-person session. However, attendees must bring their unique FSA (Federal Student Aid) ID in order to complete the FAFSA application. Those without an FSA ID should create one by at least three day prior to the event at this link . All students currently in Grades 9-11 must complete the Course Request Form and give it to their technical teacher by Wednesday, March 5 . Parents and caregivers are encouraged to assist with the process by reviewing the documents students received this week and visiting the Course Scheduling web page for more information and key links. National Champions — This week, York Tech students attended the 2025 NAHB International Builders' Show in Las Vegas. They participated in the event's student competition and left with first place in the Architecture category and second place in the Outstanding Student Chapter category! This is a huge accomplishment, especially considering our Spartans faced schools from all over the United States. Congratulations to the students, teachers, and advisors! [NAHB Photos ] Need to Know ASVAB Sign-Up Deadline — The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test will be administered on Thursday, March 20. The ASVAB is available to students in Grades 10-12 and provides them with information to make career decisions. Students planning to take the ASVAB must sign up in the School Counseling Office and return a signed permission slip by March 12 . Seats are limited. Please see Ms. Kasten in the School Counseling Office for more information. Physicals for Juniors — Students in Grade 11 are required to have a physical during their junior year. York Tech will be offering free in-school physicals on Thursday, May 1. Parents and caregivers who are interested in having their York Tech junior receive a physical through the school should notify the nurse by calling 717-741-0820 x5124 as soon as possible. Those who have already submitted physical paperwork or notification of a child's physical do not need to contact the nurse. Blood Drive — York Tech will host a blood drive on Tuesday, March 11, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Community members and York Tech students and staff may participate. Everyone who donates will receive a blood donor t-shirt and a Papa John's BOGO large pizza certificate. Visit the blood drive web page for more details. Feasibility Study — York Tech is currently conducting a feasibility study with an architectural firm. At the conclusion of the study, the firm will provide suggestions for how to increase the number of students York Tech can serve, while also solving operational issues caused by the school’s layout. Scholarships Reminder — Each year, the School Counseling Office compiles a list of postsecondary scholarships for upperclassmen. < Back Prom 2025 When and Where This year’s prom dance will take place at the Wisehaven Event Center from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025. Seniors and juniors are invited to attend the event. Ticket Sales Seniors and juniors will be able to purchase tickets for themselves and their guests starting on Monday, March 24. The last day to purchase tickets will be Friday, April 11*. All tickets will cost $55 per person. TICKETS LINK : ycst.info/promtix25 (Link will be active starting March 24) *If demand is higher than expected, ticket sales may be discontinued before April 11 to remain within the event center’s occupancy limitations. Please purchase tickets as soon as possible to avoid any issues. Seating Arrangements Students who purchase tickets will sign up for table seating arrangements in the cafeteria during all lunches from Tuesday, April 22, to Friday, April 25. Some tables seat eight, while others seat 10. One person can sign up the entire table at one time. Please come prepared with a list of first and last names. Entering the Dance After making an online purchase, no physical or digital ticket will be issued. However, students must retain their receipt and present it at the door as proof of purchase. The name of each student for whom a ticket is purchased will be recorded and used to verify attendance eligibility on the day of the dance. Dance Guests All non-York Tech dance guests must be pre-registered by using this form . The completed form should be turned into the high school office before a ticket is purchased for the individual. Guests age 21 or older are not permitted to attend prom. Theme and Dress This is a formal event, and students are required to dress in formal attire. Jeans and hats will not be permitted. The theme of the event will be Once Upon a Time . Wisehaven Event Center requires shoes to be worn at all times. Students are encouraged to bring comfortable shoes for the dance floor, if they are unable to dance in their formal shoes. Ballroom Closet York Tech students in need of dance attire may visit the Ballroom Closet, located in The HUB, during intervention periods and before homerooms from April 16-25. Gowns, suits, and men’s and women’s shoes will be available. All items are free of charge. Dinner Dinner will include a buffet-style meal and dessert bar. < Back Picture Retake Day Picture Retake Day will be Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the Media Center. Students should visit Mrs. Hicks in the Attendance Office by Monday, Oct. 16, to receive a time slot and E-Hall Pass. Seniors may wear formal or semi-formal school appropriate attire (suit jacket, dress shirt and tie, dress, etc). Underclassman may also change into school-appropriate attire of their choice. All students should avoid wearing green, which will interfere with the backdrop. News & Notes Homecoming Information — The 2023 homecoming football game and dance will occur on Saturday, Oct. 14. The home game against Fairfield will begin at 10 a.m., and the dance will take place from 6-9 p.m. at York County School of Technology. Students can look forward to Spirit Week and a pep rally prior to the dance. Commencement — We were privileged to celebrate commencement with over 100 graduates from our Adult & Continuing Education Center on Wednesday, Aug. 2. Congratulations to our newest alumni! < Back Cheerleading Tryouts Make-up Date Fall cheerleading tryouts will now be held on Aug. 8-10 from 5-7 p.m. in the high school gym. The first day of tryouts was originally scheduled to be Aug. 7, but the threat of severe weather prompted a cancellation of all afternoon and evening activities yesterday. Therefore, Aug. 10 is being used as the make-up date. Athletes will need a completed and current physical in order to try out. Please contact Coach Borden with questions at bborden@ytech.edu .
