Cafeteria Refunds — Parents and caregivers of seniors with cafeteria lunch balances over $10 will receive an email next week, which will explain the simple process for requesting refunds. Please be on the lookout for this communication. 2024-25 Sports Physicals — All student-athletes who wish to play a sport during the 2024-25 school year are required to have a physical. < Back School Store Hours York Tech's School Store has implemented changes to the order pick-up process for the 2024-25 school year. Going forward, when an order is submitted, it will be processed and made available for pickup at York Tech. After being notified that an order is ready, parents, caregivers, and students may pick up orders in the School Store during parts of B, C, and D lunch periods, provided it is a normal school day (i.e. no early dismissal, two-hour delay, etc.). The pick-up window for normal school days will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 1:15 p.m. Other hours may be available for parents and caregivers by appointment. Email techgear@ytech.edu to inquire about appointment availability. Similarly, students with A lunch who cannot visit the School Store during other lunch periods should email techgear@ytech.edu to inquire about appointment availability Parents and caregivers must enter the building through door #1, which faces Pauline Drive. (Photo I.D. will be required when checking in at the kiosk inside door #1.) The person picking up the order must be able to provide the order confirmation, order number, and name of the person who placed the order. During peak ordering times, such as the begining of the school year, certain items will be out of stock until they can be replenished. We anticipate that it will take approximately 3-4 weeks before out-of-stock items are once again available for purchase on the School Store website. Spartans in Action Dinner Celebration — Mr. Darvin Shelley has served as a school board member for the Eastern York School District since 1973. He has also served on York Tech's Joint Operating Committee for 42 years. A dinner was held on Thursday, Oct. 26, to honor Mr. Shelley's long and successful career in education. Friends, family, and the schools' administrators were in attendance to participate in the celebration and enjoy a delicious meal, which was prepared by students in our Culinary Arts program. Thank you, Mr. Shelley, for being a tremendous leader and educational visionary. Your legacy as an advocate for York County's students will never be forgotten! [Photos ] National Principals Month — October is National Principals Month. We are extremely fortunate to have three academy principals who are caring and steadfast in their support of our students. [Photos ] Carpentry Visit — Mr. Babb's carpentry classes are always hard at work, and his students didn't disappoint during our visit on Oct. 20. They were building a set in the auditorium for the upcoming musical and completing individual projects in the construction arena. As always, it was fascinating to see how many skills they've acquired while at York Tech! [Photos ] Field Trip — 27 students in our Landscaping & Agriculture program enjoyed a field trip to Hanover Architectural Products on Oct. 23. They took a tour of the company's manufacturing plant and learned that it is capable of producing 100,000 square feet of concrete pavers per day! Products from Hanover Architectural Products can be found in every state and at famous locations, such as the White House, homes of celebrities, and in New York's Central Park. [Photos ] Athletics Updates — The junior high football team finished the season strong with a 46-0 victory over Hanover on Oct. 25. The squad ended with an overall record of 5-1. The 3- and 4-year-old preschoolers rotated through stations designed to teach them about proper oral hygiene and how different foods impact teeth. The stations were coordinated by York Tech students, which allowed for positive interactions between the two age groups. Overall, it was a rewarding experience for everyone involved! [Photos ] Exam Success — Congratulations to the adult learners in our Medical Assistant program, who all passed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam on March 15! The program’s instructor, Chris Guynn, has done a fantastic job of preparing the students for their upcoming externships. Great job, Spartans! [Tickets ] Spartans in Action Headed to Nationals — Aaliyah Hall’s stellar bowling skills were on display once again, this time thanks to her 13th-place finish at the PIAA Bowling Championships on March 15. As a result, she will compete against the best high school bowlers in the country during nationals, which will be held in June. Way to go, Aaliyah! Campus Improvement Proposals — Students in Mr. Barton's Environmental Science classes shared 17 proposals with some of York Tech's administrators on March 12-13. The presentations focused on ways to make the school's campus more environmentally friendly through projects such as adding native plants, installing a solar-powered water fountain, removing volcano mulch, and more. Some of the proposals will be approved, and Mr. Barton's students will complete the work for the selected projects. We can't wait to see the results! Check out some of the cool ways in which our students and staff were recently involved with this consortium’s promotion of career and technical education. [Newsletter ] Baseball Clobbers Steelton — The baseball team defeated Steelton on Tuesday, March 19, by a score of 15-0. Brody Dedrick struck out six in three innings and gave up zero runs on one hit. Dale Dupler hit a three-run homerun to lead the team’s offensive attack. All-Star Game Participant — Congratulations to York Tech senior Jordan Overton for being selected to play in the YAIAA boys’ all-star basketball game. The contest occurred last weekend at York College. < Back 2024-25 Course Scheduling Students in Grades 9-11 watched an important presentation about 2024-25 course scheduling and received their permanent transcript, the Course Request Form, and a parent letter on Thursday, Feb. 22. (If your student was absent today and missed the scheduling presentation, they can pick up their scheduling items during their next A1 class period on Monday, Feb. 26, or they can contact their A1 teacher to arrange a pick-up time before Feb. 26.) We encourage you to review the aforementioned documents and access other critical scheduling components listed below. The boys’ and girls’ track and field teams both earned outright YAIAA Division III titles on Tuesday, April 30, after toppling Biglerville to remain undefeated. The girls’ title is the first in school history, while the boys’ team has now won back-to-back championships. Congratulations to the student-athletes and coaches for their tremendous accomplishments! [More ] Spartans in Action Solar Oven — Mr. Bryant’s Architecture & Construction Management classes have been learning about heat transfer and passive solar heating. Earlier this week, they combined these concepts by using a solar oven to cook franks and beans. The oven temperature exceeded 250 degrees Fahrenheit and cooked the meal perfectly! There was even enough left over to feed students from the adjacent Computer Programming & Interactive Media class. Senior Decision Day — Decision Day 2024 was held at York Tech on Wednesday, May 1. Seniors announced their post-graduation plans by sharing the field, employer, college, or career path to which they've committed. Some wore t-shirts to assist with the announcements, while others used a whiteboard to write down their intentions. It's inspiring to see so many unique roads to success! [Video ] Need to Know Red Ribbon Week — Students and staff will be encouraged to show their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle during Red Ribbon Week 2024, which will be held Oct. 28-Nov. 1. Exciting activities will promote a message of health and well-being. Click the link for details. [More ] Spirit Day — Happy Halloween! Thursday, Oct. 31, will be Halloween Spirit Day. No costumes are permitted, but students and staff are invited to dress in the following Halloween colors: Grade 9 wear green, Grade 10 wear orange, Grade 11 wear black, Grade 12 wear purple. Student Council will offer face painting and hand out candy to participants during lunch periods. Sports Physicals — WellSpan has increased its prices for walk-in physicals from $15 to $40. However, $15 physicals will be offered temporarily from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at WellSpan Orthopedics. Click on the link to learn more and schedule an appointment time. More openings are being added as demand increases, so check back periodically if there are initially no time slots available. [More ] Yearbook on Sale — The 2025 yearbook and recognition ads can now be purchased by clicking the link below. Jostens tends to run special promotions throughout the year, so check the website periodically for price fluctuations. The anticipated deadline for 2025 yearbook purchases is the end of February, while the tentative deadline for buying recognition ads is the end of January. We recommend buying them sooner in case Jostens announces earlier deadlines. [Purchase ] FAFSA Completion Nights — Current York Tech seniors and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend one of two free FAFSA completion events being held on Dec. 18, 2024, and Jan. 16, 2025. The sessions will be geared toward students who plan to attend college and would like to apply for financial assistance from the federal government. Please click on the link for more information. < Back Two-Hour Delay Today, Dec. 11 Due to inclement weather, York Tech high school will operate on a two-hour delay schedule today, Monday, Dec. 11. The two-hour delay schedule can be found at https://ycst.info/delay23-24 . Buses will pick up students two hours after their normal pick-up times. (For example, if a student’s bus regularly arrives at 6:45 a.m., it will arrive at approximately 8:45 a.m. this morning.) Breakfast will be served. Custodial, maintenance, and food service employees should report at their normal times. All other staff members should report two hours after their normal start times. < Back Sports Physicals WellSpan has increased its prices for walk-in physicals from $15 to $40. However, $15 physicals will be offered temporarily on the following dates: Monday, Feb. 17 , 5-7 p.m., WellSpan Orthopedics at Hanover Thursday, Feb. 20 , 5-7 p.m., WellSpan Orthopedics Student-athletes must sign up ahead of time; no walk-ins will be accepted. Appointment times are first come, first served and can be reserved using the following links: Register for Feb. 17 Register for Feb. 20 One athlete is permitted per spot, so, for example, two siblings would need to reserve two spots. Physicals obtained through WellSpan outside of this event will be at the $40 rate. As a reminder, student-athletes who wish to participate in a sport during the 2024-25 school year must submit a sports physical on the proper PIAA form dated May 1 or later.
