Our JV and varsity boys' basketball teams ended the two-day event in first place after defeating Big Springs in both championship games on Thursday, Dec. 28. Varsity secured the trophy by a final score of 61-53, while JV earned a 52-32 victory. Additionally, senior Ryan Bischof was named the tournament's MVP, and Jordan Overton made the All-Tournament Team. Congratulations to all of the student-athletes and their coaches! [Photos ] Need to Know Musical Auditions — Auditions for Spongebob SquarePants the Musical will take place in the auditorium from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Jan. 10-11. All current York Tech students interested in auditioning should review and complete the sign-up form available at this link . The public performances of the musical will take place April 19-21, 2024. Career Camp — We are excited to announce details about our 2024 Career Camp, which will take place June 11-12, 2024. During the two-day camp, current sixth- and seventh-grade students from our 14 sending school districts will experience hands-on activities in a number of technical programs. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served between now and when capacity has been met. Kaya Overholtzer '18 and teacher Duncan Merkert join the show to discuss York Tech's Network Systems & Cyber Security program. The conversation covers a wide range of topics, including Ms. Overholtzer's job as a digital forensics analyst, Mr. Merkert’s time as a military network systems operator, and more. [Listen ] Spartans in Action Bowling Success — Our bowling team has been on fire so far this season. The squad is currently undefeated after securing a huge victory against Central York on Dec. 22. Mason Smith (695) and Xander Roberts (686) were the top performers, but everyone played a huge part in the win. [Photos ] More Athletics Updates — York Tech’s independent swimmer, Zoe Welsh, turned in a fantastic performance against Red Lion and New Oxford on Dec. 21, placing first in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Also, during the winter break, the varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Kutztown by a score of 53-25. Spartan Theatre was chosen by Broadway Licensing Global to perform the play’s first official stagings in Pennsylvania. Click on the link to purchase tickets in advance. [Tickets ] Alumnus Message — Recently, alumnus P.J. Suter '24 reached out to one of our Diesel Technology instructors, Mr. Deatrick, to share an exciting update. He is now living along the Gulf of Mexico and using the knowledge he gained in the Diesel Technology program to make over $100,000 dollars a year at CEMEX! Additionally, he shared some heartwarming words about how Mr. Deatrick assisted him during his high school career. This type of feedback is what makes working in education so gratifying! [Photos ] Need to Know Donations Needed — York Tech students are able to get free formal attire from the Ballroom Closet for homecoming and prom. However, we’re running low on clothing. Gently used or new formal wear can be dropped off in any of our school offices. Thank you for considering this opportunity to help students in need! PSAT Registration — PSATs will be administered on Oct. 22. The PSAT is open to all York Tech students in Grade 11, and the school covers the cost. Registration will open on Monday, Sept. 9, and close on Monday, Sept. 30. Students can register in the School Counseling Office with Ms. Kasten. Health Forms — If you have not already done so, please complete the required health information forms for your child through Skyward. The nurse is unable to provide medication for students until these forms are submitted. Thank you for helping with this important task! [Skyward ] Sophomore Class Rings — The Class of 2027 will meet with Student Services Company on Sept. 18 for the class ring presentation. Sophomores will then place class ring orders in the cafeteria during lunch periods on Sept. 27. More information will be distributed to parents and caregivers closer to Sept. 18. Sugar Confection Show — The White Rose Sugar Art Competition is coming to York Tech! This two-day competition will be held Nov. 2-3, 2024, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. [Musical Photos ] Need to Know Class of 2028 Elections — Students in the Class of 2028, who would like to run for a class officer position for the 2025-26 school year, must complete the petition form and read the important information it contains. The deadline to complete the form is 3 p.m., Thursday, April 3. Questions should be directed to one of the two class advisors: Dr. Pero or Mr. Pivirotto . Report Cards — Report cards for the third marking period are now available in Skyward . Copies can be downloaded by logging into Skyward, selecting Portfolio, and clicking the download icon next to the appropriate file. Physicals for Juniors — Students in Grade 11 are required to have a physical during their junior year. York Tech will be offering free in-school physicals on Thursday, May 1 . Parents and caregivers who are interested in having their York Tech junior receive a physical through the school should notify the nurse by calling 717-741-0820 x5124 as soon as possible. Those who have already submitted physical paperwork or notification of a child's physical do not need to contact the nurse. Senior Yard Signs — York Tech has partnered with Image360 for senior yard signs. Orders can be placed by visiting Image360’s school signs web page . SATs Information — Juniors and seniors interested in applying to postsecondary institutions may need to take the SATs, depending on the schools to which they might apply. York Tech does not administer the SATs, but there are several testing facilities in York County. Registration deadlines for the next round of SATs are approaching, so we encourage families to visit collegeboard.com and learn more about this potentially critical component of the postsecondary application process. Students with questions about SATs should speak with their school counselor. New Fan Shops — York Tech recently partnered with Artistic Imprints to offer new general , athletics , and alumni fan shops. These shops feature free shipping and artwork created by current or former York Tech students. Style Show — Level III Licensed Cosmetology students will be hosting the annual Cosmetology Style Show in York Tech’s auditorium on Thursday, April 10 . This year’s theme will be Rewind . Medical Professions students offered free blood pressure screenings, while students in Computer Programming & Interactive Media demonstrated their advanced robotics and coding skills. They interacted with general visitors and legislators, including Rep. Joseph D'Orsie, Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, Rep. Kate Klunk, Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill, and more. < Back Blood Drive DETAILS York Tech will host a blood drive on Tuesday, March 11 , from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. It will be held in the Spartan Arena (i.e. the school's original gymnasium). Participants must reserve a time in advance; walk-ins cannot be accommodated. (Specific sign-up instructions are listed below by category.) Everyone who donates will receive a blood donor t-shirt and a Papa John's BOGO large pizza certificate. STUDENTS Students must be 16 or older to donate. Every York Tech student who wants to participate, regardless of age, must submit a completed parental consent form to the school nurse. When the form is turned in, the school nurse will assign each student a time during the school day to visit the Spartan Arena and donate. COMMUNITY MEMBERS Adult members of the community are also encouraged to participate in the blood drive. Anyone wishing to participate must email York Tech's school nurse at smelhorn@ytech.edu to request an appointment time. On the day of the blood drive, community members must enter door #1, which faces Pauline Drive. Please have photo identification available upon arrival for entry into the school, and be prepared to complete the necessary blood drive paperwork before making a donation. STAFF York Tech staff members may participate in the blood drive by contacting the school nurse and making an appointment at a time that won't require coverage. QUESTIONS Please contact York Tech's school nurse at 717-741-0820 x5124 with any questions. DONOR RULES Is is important that all donors adhere to the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank's donor rules for a safe and easy experience: Down those fluids. Fluids help reduce the feeling of lightheadedness and lessen the chance of having a reaction after the donation, such as fainting. Fluids also make veins plump up, so they are easier to stick. Beginning the day before your donation, drink plenty of fluids, such as water and juice. Caffeine can make your body lose fluid, so skip it, if at all possible. Eat a healthy breakfast and lunch. Having a good meal before a donation helps reduce the chances of having a reaction. Catch some sleep. Be well rested. Get a good night's sleep the night before donating. Try not to be too nervous, if this is your first time. Treat yourself right after your donation. Leave your bandage in place until you get home. Avoid heavy lifting with the arm used to give blood. We recommend no strenuous activity for 24 hours after a donation. Continue to eat well and drink lots of fluids. If your arm hurts after donating, an ice pack may help. Thanks to his great performance, Rylan earned a $6,000 scholarship and a Snap-on tool set worth $400. < Back Free Style Show Mark your calendar! Level III students in our Licensed Cosmetology program will present a style show at York Tech on Wednesday, April 10. This year's theme is Elements . < Back Spirit Week Overview Homecoming Spirit Week will be Oct. 20-24, 2025. Below is a list of the themes and, when applicable, a breakdown of which grades have been assigned specific colors. All students are encouraged to participate and show their school spirit. (Outfits must be school appropriate and adhere to the dress code outlined in the student handbook .) Themes Oct. 20 — Sports Jersey/Shirt Day Oct. 21 — Dress Like a Senior Citizen Day Oct. 22 — Pink Day (Breast Cancer Awareness) Oct. 23 — Dress Like Adam Sandler Day Oct. 24 — Spartan Spirit Day Grade 12: Black Grade 11: White Grade 10: Green Grade 9: Gray Pep Rally A special bell schedule will be used Oct. 24, which is listed below. The Pep Rally will be held at 2 p.m. (This is an in-school event and is not open to the public.) Students will leave their belongings in their fourth-period classroom. At the conclusion of the event, students will be dismissed back to class, where they will retrieve their items before boarding the buses. Three U.S. Army reps visited and supplied military rations, commonly called MREs. Each team had to transform their MREs into an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. All of the contestants wowed the judges, but the duo of Kaylee Stimpson and Veronica Gonzalez earned first place!
