Our JV and varsity boys' basketball teams ended the two-day event in first place after defeating Big Springs in both championship games on Thursday, Dec. 28. Varsity secured the trophy by a final score of 61-53, while JV earned a 52-32 victory. Additionally, senior Ryan Bischof was named the tournament's MVP, and Jordan Overton made the All-Tournament Team. Congratulations to all of the student-athletes and their coaches! [Photos ] Need to Know Musical Auditions — Auditions for Spongebob SquarePants the Musical will take place in the auditorium from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Jan. 10-11. All current York Tech students interested in auditioning should review and complete the sign-up form available at this link . The public performances of the musical will take place April 19-21, 2024. Career Camp — We are excited to announce details about our 2024 Career Camp, which will take place June 11-12, 2024. During the two-day camp, current sixth- and seventh-grade students from our 14 sending school districts will experience hands-on activities in a number of technical programs. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served between now and when capacity has been met. Kaya Overholtzer '18 and teacher Duncan Merkert join the show to discuss York Tech's Network Systems & Cyber Security program. The conversation covers a wide range of topics, including Ms. Overholtzer's job as a digital forensics analyst, Mr. Merkert’s time as a military network systems operator, and more. [Listen ] Spartans in Action Bowling Success — Our bowling team has been on fire so far this season. The squad is currently undefeated after securing a huge victory against Central York on Dec. 22. Mason Smith (695) and Xander Roberts (686) were the top performers, but everyone played a huge part in the win. [Photos ] More Athletics Updates — York Tech’s independent swimmer, Zoe Welsh, turned in a fantastic performance against Red Lion and New Oxford on Dec. 21, placing first in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Also, during the winter break, the varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Kutztown by a score of 53-25. - Chicken BBQ Fundraiser
< Back Chicken BBQ Fundraiser York Tech's volleyball program will hold its annual chicken BBQ fundraiser from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, July 14. Preorders will be accepted through Thursday, July 6, and can be submitted by emailing hhess@ytech.edu . The preorders will be available for pickup at York Tech during the event on July 14. There will be some extra meals available for walk-up purchases the day of the event, but preorders are encouraged. Peter's Barbecue will be providing the meals, which will include one half chicken, baked potato, applesauce, dinner roll with butter, and water. The cost per meal is $12. We hope to see you there! Medical Professions students offered free blood pressure screenings, while students in Computer Programming & Interactive Media demonstrated their advanced robotics and coding skills. They interacted with general visitors and legislators, including Rep. Joseph D'Orsie, Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, Rep. Kate Klunk, Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill, and more. [Photos ] Need to Know Physicals for Juniors — Students in Grade 11 are required to have a physical during their junior year. York Tech will be offering free physicals on Thursday, April 25. Parents and caregivers who are interested in having their junior receive a physical through the school should notify the nurse at 717-741-0820 x5124 as soon as possible. Those who have already submitted physical paperwork or notification of a child's physical do not need to contact the nurse. Senior Class Trip — The Senior Class trip will be on Friday, May 17. We’re always grateful for the opportunity to learn from industry professionals! [Photos ] Baseball Heats Up — JV and varsity baseball turned in fine performances last weekend. [Schedule ] Track & Field on a Roll — York Tech made its mark as one of the top YAIAA teams during the Herb Schmidt Relays on Friday, April 5. Among the Spartans who medaled were five meet champions, including Pearce Alleyne (discus, shot put), Eli Steel (triple jump), the girls’ 4x800 relay team (Rhea Flores, Isabel Waight-Alvarado, Tasiyah Johnson, Sheila Driscoll), and the girls’ 4x400 relay team (Rhea Flores, Kayden Parris, Isabel Waight-Alvarado, Tasiyah Johnson). Four days later, the teams earned two victories over Littlestown by scores of 102-44 for the boys and 116-30 for the girls. Finally, the track squads ended the week by defeating Hanover 139.5-10.5 (boys) and 124-18 (girls). Currently, both teams are undefeated and battling for league championships. [Schedule ] NOCTI Challenge — Each year, our seniors take the NOCTI exam, which is a two-day assessment of their technical skills and job readiness. The test consists of a written portion and a hands-on segment judged by industry professionals. < Back Schedules for Feb. 13 Due to the potential for inclement weather and adverse travel conditions, the York Tech high school will utilize a flexible instruction day today, Tuesday, Feb. 13. Students and staff will participate in synchronous instruction from home by following the 2023-24 virtual learning schedule, which is available at https://ycst.info/fid2023-24 . Prior to the start of each period, a student should log in to Schoology, visit the teacher's Schoology home page, and access the virtual classroom using the Microsoft Teams link listed on the Schoology page. Additionally, the Adult & Continuing Education Center will be closed, and all high school and adult education office staff will work remotely. Finally, evening activities, including athletics events, will be canceled or postponed. Coaches will contact student-athletes about rescheduled dates, if applicable. < Back Support Our Special Olympians Brian Honeychuck '17 and sophomore Cassidy Miller will be competing in the Spring Games 2024, organized by the York County Special Olympics. Please consider supporting our Spartans and the 100+ other Special Olympics athletes on Saturday, May 4, at York College of Pennsylvania (YCP). The opening ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m., and sports-specific competitions will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The activities will include four categories: Swimming (Natatorium), Tennis (Tennis Courts), Track & Field (Graham Field), and Basketball (Fieldhouse). < Back Welding Teacher Job Type: Full Time Apply Now Job Overview & Description York Tech is expanding our High School Welding program in the 2026-27 school year! General Description: The Welding Teacher will be responsible for teaching high school students the skills and theory in the welding and metal fabrication curriculum. Salary and Benefits: The starting salary range for this role is typically $65,000-$75,000. This position comes with medical and dental benefits effective with the first day of employment, as well as paid leave time, retirement plans, and other fringe benefits. Required Qualifications : The individual to be hired to the position of Welding Teacher must meet the following conditions and qualifications: PA CTE Teaching Certification in Welding preferred. Noncertified candidates must have at least four years of full time (or equivalent) work experience within the field after their high school graduation date. Candidates not possessing PA teaching certification must be willing to complete required college coursework and testing requirements to obtain full certification. Evidence of completion of a formal welding training program strongly preferred. Knowledge of welding and metal fabrication supplies, equipment, and safety guidelines. Ability to communicate with a diverse group of students, parents, coworkers, and the community in a manner which demonstrates dignity and respect. The school reserves the right to excuse any applicant from meeting one or more of the listed qualification requirements, provided the applicant possesses other qualifications in addition to the minimum set forth herein, and that the School deems those qualifications to be an adequate and acceptable substitute for the particular qualification(s) not possessed by the applicant. Key Responsibilities: The Welding Teacher must have the ability to perform the following essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations: Instruct students in grades 9—12 in various aspects of welding and metal fabrication including but not limited to gas, arc, shielded and non-shielded metal arc, MIG and TIG, brazing, flame cutting and plastic welding. Hand, semi-automatic, and automatic welding processes components are included. Teach safety practices and types and uses of electrodes and welding rods; properties of metals; blueprint reading; electrical principles; welding symbols and mechanical drawing; use of equipment for testing welds by ultrasonic methods and destruction and hardness testing; use of manuals and specification charts; use of portable grinders and chemical baths for surface cleaning; positioning and clamping; and welding standards established by the American Welding Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and American Bureau of Ships. Create and implement lesson plans conforming to school requirements for content and/or format. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit grade reports as required. Create a positive environment conducive toward learning. Work cooperatively with other staff members and promote a cohesive team-based approach to the program and curriculum. Contact parents or guardians when necessary. Develop connections with local businesses and outside organizations to promote internships, sponsorships, and/or job placement. Attend school functions as required. Perform other duties as requested or assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator Physical/Environmental Demands: School and shop environment. Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, smoke, loud noises, and unpleasant odors. Moderate physical activity including standing and/or walking for most of the work day Lifting up to 50 pounds. Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and grasping. High level of manual dexterity. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
