Students, instructors, and alumni from six of our technical programs collaborated to design and construct two 14-foot-tall statues and the brick pedestals on which they stand. The Spartan statues were hoisted into place on Feb. 8, where they will greet visitors entering our outdoor stadium for many years to come. The technical programs involved in this project included Architecture & Construction Management, Carpentry, Construction Trades, Engineering & Advanced Manufacturing, Precision Machining Technology, and Welding & Metal Fabrication. Thank you to everyone who made this idea become a reality! [Video ] [Photos ] Need to Know Prom 2024 — This year’s prom dance will take place at Wisehaven Event Center from 5:30-9 p.m. on Friday, April 26. Tickets will go on sale around the middle of March. [Form ] Game of the Week Feb. 21 — Unified Bocce vs. Dover, @Dover Area H.S., 3:30 p.m. Spartans in Action CTE Month — February is Career & Technical Education Month. As part of the celebration, TechLink, a consortium for career and technical education, produced several videos highlighting CTE teachers. York Tech was represented in the videos by instructor Todd Kessler and two students: Ava Sloan and Calvin Elicker. They did a fantastic job! Shorter versions of this video will air on WGAL throughout February. [Video ] Welsh Finds Podium — Congratulations to Zoe Welsh for earning a spot on the podium during the YAIAA Swimming Championships! She finished fourth in the freestyle on Friday, Feb. 9, and third in the breaststroke on Saturday, Feb. 10. We're proud of her continued success throughout the season, especially considering this is her first time competing at the high school level! [Video ] Grant Presentation — Shawn Harty, a sales engineer with Big Daishowa, visited York Tech on Feb. 8 to officially present a $3,950 grant on behalf of York Precision Machining & Hydraulics . This very generous contribution will purchase new equipment from Big Daishowa for our Precision Machining Technology program. We’re so thankful to these companies for supporting our talented students! [Photos ] Social Studies Simulations — Last week, Ms. Arvelo and Mr. Alwood completed two simulations with their social studies classes. First, a stock market challenge helped to demonstrate the effects of buying and selling stock. When the market crashed, students had to run to the bank and attempt to retrieve their money before it was gone! Next, they simulated how people lived with very little money during the Great Depression. Students started wealthy, but, as the decade continued, they lost their homes, children, and some ended up in jail. We're proud of the creative learning happening in Ms. Arvelo and Mr. Alwood’s classroom! [Photos ] CNT Challenge — A group of five York Tech students placed second during HACC’s annual Computer Networking Technology (CNT) Challenge Day on Friday, Feb. 9. During this one-day event, technical schools compete in progressively harder computer networking challenges related to building a company network. The tasks included router configuration, cable making, troubleshooting, and more. Congratulations to the five team members: Alexander Lukens, Carter Sprinkle, Brandon Krout, David Ayeni, and Ryan German! [Photos ] Open Forum — Several York Tech administrators, teachers, and students had the opportunity to attend an open forum hosted by Judd Pittman, the new director of the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Career and Technical Education. The event, which coincided perfectly with CTE Month, was held at HACC on Thursday, Feb. 15, and included networking, roundtable discussions, enrichment activities, and more. [Photos ] Athletics Updates — Our bowlers finished their regular season on Friday, Feb. 9, with a 4-1 home win over Spring Grove. The victory improved the squad’s overall record to 13-3. Family First Health — We are excited to announce that we've partnered with Family First Health to provide additional resources for our students. [Video ] Fall Play — This past weekend, 43 York Tech students were involved with the production of the fall play, which was titled The Play That Goes Wrong. They performed four times across three days, and the results were amazing! Thanks to stellar performances by the entire cast, this group brought the house down with its well-timed comedy. [Photos ] Welding Donation — The York location of BAE Systems generously donated a LiveArc Welding Performance Management Station to our welding program on Tuesday, Nov. 21. This unit is a reality-based training solution for GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding applications, which provides users with instant feedback to improve their welding techniques. Joseph Mack and Donnie Pritchard, employees at BAE Systems, delivered and assembled the station. Afterward, they trained some of our students on how to use it. We're very grateful to them and BAE Systems for this wonderful addition to our welding shop! [Photos ] Field Trip — Students involved with Student Council and the United for Change & Diversity Club traveled to Solanco High School on Nov. 17. They listened to keynote speaker Gian Paul Gonzalez, a high school teacher famous for inspiring the New York Giants football team, talk about leadership and an “all-in” mindset. Afterward, the group was able to meet Mr. Gonzalez and take a group photo with him. It was a very beneficial field trip! [Photo ] Esports Success — Congratulations to the three York Tech esports teams that made the playoffs during the fall season! The teams that qualified for the upcoming regional playoffs are Mario Kart Team B, Smash Bros. Team Elevate, and Smash Bros. Team New Genesis. They learned about herd health and gestational periods for sheep and alpacas. Afterward, everyone was given the opportunity to feed and pet the animals, and some even held Genesis, a one-month-old baby alpaca! [Photos ] Need to Know Conferences — Virtual parent-teacher conferences for the first semester will be conducted from 5-8 p.m. on Nov. 20. This round of conferences is specifically for academic classes, not technical classes. Registration for the conferences is required and can be completed through Skyward by first visiting ycst.info/ptc23 for instructions. When scheduling a conference, if a teacher's conference schedule is full, please contact the high school office by calling 717-741-0820 x4999, so alternative arrangements can be made. Report Cards — Report cards for the first marking period are available in Skyward. A copy of your child's report card can be downloaded by logging into Skyward, selecting Portfolio, and clicking the download icon next to the appropriate file. [Skyward ] Cheerleading Tryouts — Cheerleading tryouts for the 2023-24 winter sports season will be conducted on Nov. 17, Nov. 20, and Nov. 21. The sessions will be held immediately after school from 3-5:30 p.m. each day. All York Tech students who wish to tryout must have completed physical paperwork. One of her Landscaping & Agriculture classes took a field trip to Wertz Farm & Power Equipment, while a group of FFA members traveled to South Mountain Fairgrounds and participated in a veterinary skills competition. Those who visited Wertz Farm & Power Equipment learned about landscaping business concepts, tax strategies, income management, basic equipment maintenance, and new tools that will soon be on the market. U.S. History — Mr. Collins is teaching his U.S. History classes about the Gilded Age (1877-1900) and its similarities to today's economy. This unit covers the Robber Barons — John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan, among others — who accrued massive wealth during the Gilded Age due to their ruthless business tactics, while also revolutionizing industry by introducing technological improvements. Last week, students took a break from their studies to channel the mindset of these tycoons by playing Monopoly. We had the chance to visit his classroom last month, and we observed the Chess Club in action on Nov. 15. The Electronics & IT Support students were working with a Windows command line utility program, and the club members discussed advanced strategies for specific game situations. < Back Sports Physicals WellSpan has increased its prices for walk-in physicals from $15 to $40. However, $15 physicals will be offered temporarily on the following dates: Nov. 3, 2025 , 5:30-7:30 p.m., WellSpan Orthopedics West York Nov. 4, 2025 , 5-7 p.m., WellSpan Orthopedics Hanover These events are specifically for York Tech and York Country Day School student-athletes who are planning on playing a sport for the 2025-26 school year. Student-athletes MUST sign up ahead of time; no walk-ins will be accepted. If applicable, wear your contacts/glasses. Appointment times are first come, first served and can be reserved using the following links: Register for Nov. 3, 2025 Register for Nov. 4, 2025 One athlete is permitted per spot, so, for example, two siblings would need to reserve two spots. Physicals obtained through WellSpan outside of this event will be at the $40 rate.
