Calendar Reminders March 14 — Two-Hour Delay [Details ] March 28 — Students Off, Teacher In-Service March 29 — School Closed, Offices Closed Featured News Trophy Case Addition — This week, York Tech students attended the 2024 NAHB International Builders' Show in Las Vegas. They participated in the event's student competition and left with first place in the architecture category! This is a huge accomplishment, especially considering the talented competition, which included schools from all over the United States. Congrats to the students, teachers, and advisors who worked so hard to prepare for this event! [Photos ] Gold Medal Winners — Our unified bocce team won the gold medal during the league playoffs on Feb. 21! These student-athletes will now compete in the regional playoffs on March 7. Good luck, Spartans! [Photo ] Need to Know Fan Shop Launched — York Tech has partnered with 2 The Tee Outfitters, a local company, to provide a year-round apparel store available to everyone. Orders can be shipped to a home address or picked up at York Tech on school days during designated times. The best part? A percentage of each sale will be given to York Tech’s Athletics Department to support our student-athletes! [Shop ] 2024 Yearbook — The yearbook is coming along beautifully and will be delivered to York Tech this spring. There are a limited number of copies available, so families interested in purchasing one are encouraged to order soon by clicking on the button below. [Order ] The SpongeBob Musical — Mark your calendar! York Tech Theatre will be performing The SpongeBob Musical on April 19-21. Tickets can be purchased now by clicking on the button below. [Tickets ] Summer Volleyball Camps — All-American Volleyball Camps will hold two camps at York Tech in July. The first will be for York Tech female students entering Grades 9-12, and the other will be for boys and girls entering Grades 6-8. [Grades 6-8 ] [Grades 9-12 ] Spartans in Action Balsa Wood Cabins — Last month, students in our Architecture & Construction Management program worked on framing miniature A-frame cabins using balsa wood. This activity helped reinforce several important building concepts being taught by the program's instructor, Mr. Bryant. The precision and attention to detail were impressive! [Photos ] New Esports Season — Another esports season began on Feb. 22, and we were there to watch the action during the team's first practice. Players honed their skills via one-on-one matchups, and, judging by the results, this squad is loaded with talent. We can't wait for the competitive matches to begin! [Photos ] Giving Back — A group of six York Tech students recently cooked breakfast casseroles and donated them to a local soup kitchen. They also served the patrons, cleaned tables, and took a tour of the facility. We're always proud to see our Spartans giving back to the community! [Photos ] Nurse Aide Graduation — Nine students graduated from our Adult & Continuing Education Center’s Nurse Aide program on Feb. 29. The Nurse Aide program is a 16-day course that covers high-quality patient care in long-term care facilities and private homes. These students are now prepared to take the Pennsylvania National Nurse Aide Assessment Program exam. Congratulations, Spartans! [Photo ] Courthouse Visit — Fifteen students from our Criminal Justice program visited the York County Judicial Center on Feb. 27. This field trip allowed them to get a sneak peak of the courthouse’s inner workings. [Photo ] FFA Success — Olivia Harrison competed in a regional FFA employability skills contest on Feb. 20. She placed second in the county and third in the region. Way to go, Olivia! [Photo ] PLNA Summit — Luke Druck and Sarah Whitcraft attended the Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association’s 120th Anniversary Celebration and Education Summit at Longwood Gardens from Feb. 21-22. Mrs. Warner, our Landscaping & Agriculture instructor and an executive board member for PLNA, accompanied them. The trio learned more about landscape contracting, business horticulture, and sustainable landscape developments and solutions. Announcements Deadline Dec. 6 — 2025-26 New Student Apps Due Dec. 8 — FCCLA Vendor Bingo Featured News Application Deadline — The deadline for new students currently in Grades 8-9 to apply for the 2025-26 school year is fast approaching! Friday, Dec. 6, will be the final day that applications can be submitted. More information about the application process can be found by clicking on the link in our bio or visiting ytech.edu/admissions . Happy Thanksgiving — This Thanksgiving, we're grateful for the wonderful sense of community in Spartan Nation. A great example of this caring spirit was the food drive organized by the United for Change and Diversity Club. Students and staff came together to donate canned goods, turkeys, and money. As a result, 16 York Tech families in need won't have to worry about affording today's holiday meal. Thank you, Spartans, for your never-ending generosity, and happy Thanksgiving to everyone associated with York Tech! [Photos ] Need to Know Coping With Grief — The holidays are often filled with joy, gatherings, and reflection, but they can also be a challenging time for those coping with grief or loss. [Letter ] Keystone Testing — Approximately 145 sophomores and juniors will take the winter Keystone exams Dec. 10-11. All students scheduled to take a Keystone test were given a take-home letter on Nov. 13 to share with parents and caregivers. Click on the link to view a copy of the letter. [Letter ] Reminder for Students — This is a friendly reminder that students are not permitted to have food delivered to York Tech during school hours. Per page 15 of the Student Handbook , “York Tech will not accept delivery of flowers, balloons, food, etc. for students.” Thank you for your cooperation! NHS Tutoring — York Tech’s chapter of the National Honor Society is once again offering its Spartan Study Buddies program. Students who need assistance with coursework may request an NHS tutor by clicking on the link and completing the form. Tutors are limited and sessions are offered on a first come, first served basis. [Form ] Inclement Weather — As we approach winter, the likelihood of a closing, delay, or early dismissal due to inclement weather increases. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with how such events will be communicated to York Tech families and what to expect if a virtual learning day is utilized. [More ] Winter Coat Drive — The Hub is an in-school resource center that contains free clothing and other essentials for York Tech students in need. Donations help to keep The Hub appropriately stocked. Currently, the items most needed are new or gently used winter coats. If you'd like to contribute, please send in coats with a current student or deliver them to one of York Tech's offices during school hours between Nov. 25 and Dec. 20. [Video ] Need to Know Clothing Donations — The Hub is seeking donations of winter outerwear, including coats, jackets, scarves, hats, and gloves. Donated items will help some of our York Tech students stay warm this winter. Items can be dropped off in the boxes located outside The Hub or given to a staff member in one of our offices. Family First Health — We are excited to announce that we've partnered with Family First Health to provide additional resources for our students. Sandra Frecon, a community health worker with Family First Health, will be available once a week in the high school office to provide health-related services. [Video ] Fall Play — This past weekend, 43 York Tech students were involved with the production of the fall play, which was titled The Play That Goes Wrong. They performed four times across three days, and the results were amazing! Thanks to stellar performances by the entire cast, this group brought the house down with its well-timed comedy. [Photos ] Welding Donation — The York location of BAE Systems generously donated a LiveArc Welding Performance Management Station to our welding program on Tuesday, Nov. 21. This unit is a reality-based training solution for GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding applications, which provides users with instant feedback to improve their welding techniques. Joseph Mack and Donnie Pritchard, employees at BAE Systems, delivered and assembled the station. Afterward, they trained some of our students on how to use it. We're very grateful to them and BAE Systems for this wonderful addition to our welding shop! [Photos ] Field Trip — Students involved with Student Council and the United for Change & Diversity Club traveled to Solanco High School on Nov. 17. They listened to keynote speaker Gian Paul Gonzalez, a high school teacher famous for inspiring the New York Giants football team, talk about leadership and an “all-in” mindset. Afterward, the group was able to meet Mr. Gonzalez and take a group photo with him. It was a very beneficial field trip! [Photo ] Esports Success — Congratulations to the three York Tech esports teams that made the playoffs during the fall season! The teams that qualified for the upcoming regional playoffs are Mario Kart Team B, Smash Bros. Team Elevate, and Smash Bros. Team New Genesis. Both competitions will start at 4 p.m. Holiday Project — Ms. Wilson gave her welding classes a unique assignment last week. Because government is a means for addressing common or public problems, the political system established by the U.S. Constitution is an important subject of study within civics. Civics requires other knowledge too; students should also learn about state and local governments; markets; courts and legal systems; civil society; other nations’ systems and practices; international institutions; and the techniques available to citizens for preserving and changing a society. Civics is not limited to the study of politics and society; it also encompasses participation in classrooms and schools, neighborhoods, groups, and organizations. Not all participation is beneficial. What defines civic virtue, which democratic principles apply in given situations, and when discussions are deliberative are not easy questions, but they are topics for inquiry and reflection. In civics, students learn to contribute appropriately to public processes and discussions of real issues. Their contributions to public discussions may take many forms, ranging from personal testimony to abstract arguments. They will also learn civic practices such as voting, volunteering, jury service, and joining with others to improve society. Civics enables students not only to study how others participate, but also to practice participating and taking informed action themselves. AP U.S. Government & Politics (203AP) [NCAA] 1.0 credit, Grade 11-12, Weight 1.2 AP Civics and Government presents the principles of the American representative form of government. The intent of instruction is to instill the acts and policies of the framers of the Declaration of Independence and of the Constitution that it is a citizen’s duty and responsibility to exercise their voting privilege and to understand the American form of government as in comparison to other forms of government. This course is a college level course. College credit may be obtained for a student’s freshman level Civics and/or Government course upon completion and passage of the AP Civics and Government Exam. This course is extremely independent in nature. It follows a college level text and the student must be prepared to work independently on content not covered in class, content covered in class and content created and studied outside of class. Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation. AP U.S. History (200AP) [NCAA] 1.0 credit, Grade 10, Weight 1.2, Offered 2026-27 The AP U.S. History course is designed to provide students with the analytic skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in U.S. history. The program prepares students for intermediate and advanced college courses by making demands upon them equivalent to those made by full–year introductory college courses. Students should learn to assess historical materials—their relevance to a given interpretive problem, reliability, and importance—and to weigh the evidence and interpretations presented in historical scholarship. This course will develop the skills necessary to arrive at conclusions based on an informed judgment and to present reasons and evidence clearly and persuasively in essay format. The girls’ tennis team downed West York by a score of 3-2 on Senior Night, which improved the squad’s overall record to 8-6. Their most recent assignment started with a fun and competitive twist. Each group selected one of three board games: Battleship, Stratego, or Risk. Opening the game revealed the name of a battle, such as Pearl Harbor or Iwo Jima. After playing the game, students began to prepare short presentations about their assigned conflict. They will also complete a thorough analysis of its importance, which must include a direct connection to the board game they played. It will be held from 3 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Union Fire Company #1, which is located at 201 York Street, Manchester, PA 17345. More details will be shared in early 2025.
