We really enjoyed recognizing these students during the Joint Operating Committee meeting on Nov. 19. Click on the link to watch a video about their time at York Tech. [Video ] First-Time Welder — Mr. Rudd, school counselor, is always looking for ways to better serve our students and understand their needs. Last week, he took this quest to a new level. Thanks to stellar guidance by senior Tristan Bentz, Mr. Rudd successfully tried welding for the first time. We're lucky to have such devoted school counselors in Spartan Nation! [Photos ] Need to Know Keystone Testing — Approximately 170 sophomores and juniors will take the winter Keystone exams Dec. 10-11. All students scheduled to take a Keystone test were given a take-home letter on Nov. 13 to share with parents and caregivers. Click on the link to view a copy of the letter. [Letter ] Reminder for Students — This is a friendly reminder that students are not permitted to have food delivered to York Tech during school hours. Per page 15 of the Student Handbook , “York Tech will not accept delivery of flowers, balloons, food, etc. for students.” Thank you for your cooperation! NHS Tutoring — York Tech’s chapter of the National Honor Society is once again offering its Spartan Study Buddies program. Students who need assistance with coursework may request an NHS tutor by clicking on the link and completing the form. Tutors are limited and sessions are offered on a first come, first served basis. [Form ] Inclement Weather — As we approach winter, the likelihood of a closing, delay, or early dismissal due to inclement weather increases. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with how such events will be communicated to York Tech families and what to expect if a virtual learning day is utilized. [More ] Winter Coat Drive — The Hub is an in-school resource center that contains free clothing and other essentials for York Tech students in need. Donations help to keep The Hub appropriately stocked. Currently, the items most needed are new or gently used winter coats. If you'd like to contribute, please send in coats with a current student or deliver them to one of York Tech's offices during school hours between Nov. 25 and Dec. 20. Thank you for considering this opportunity to assist our Spartans! Musical Auditions — Auditions for the spring musical, West Side Story , will be held on Jan. 4. Students who would like to audition must click on the link and complete the form. Additionally, free dance workshops are being offered to any who’d like to prepare for auditions. Click on the link below to sign up. [Auditions ] [Workshops ] ASVAB Deadline — The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test will be administered on Dec. 12. The ASVAB provides students with information to assist them in making career decisions and is available to students in Grades 10-12. Students planning to take the ASVAB must sign up in the School Counseling Office and return a signed permission slip by Dec. 4. Seats are limited. Graduation Announcements — Parents and caregivers of seniors, who wish to purchase graduation announcements through the Student Services Company, must submit orders by Friday, Dec. 6. Tom Baker, one of Millersville University's trustees and the CEO of Variety - the Children's Charity of Pittsburgh, stopped by to congratulate Cassidy on being accepted into Millersville's Integrated Studies program and give her a welcome package. Cassidy was joined by her mom and teachers, which created a very memorable moment. [Surprise Photos ] Alumnus Visit — Randy Grove '77 visited our Licensed Cosmetology program for a haircut on Feb. 20, and he came bearing gifts! The custom frames feature past and present pictures of the high school's main entrance, and the bouquet is comprised of handmade ribbon flowers in York Tech's colors. All three items pay homage to the horticulture and floriculture knowledge gained during his time at York Tech. Thank you, Mr. Grove! [Visit Photos ] Need to Know Grades in Skyward — Teachers have updated grades for the halfway point of the third quarter. We invite you to review your student's grades by logging into Skyward and clicking on the icon titled Grading. Blood Drive — York Tech will host a blood drive on Tuesday, March 11, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Community members and York Tech students and staff may participate. Everyone who donates will receive a blood donor t-shirt and a Papa John's BOGO large pizza certificate. Visit the blood drive web page for more details. Scholarships Reminder — Each year, the School Counseling Office compiles a list of postsecondary scholarships for upperclassmen. Students interested in learning more about these scholarships should review the scholarships document . Please note that the list is not exhaustive; students are encouraged to research additional opportunities. Black History Month — In honor of Black History Month, the United for Change and Diversity Club has prepared a slideshow to highlight a prominent Black figure on each day of the month.
