It was our pleasure to continue this annual tradition, and we're so thankful for the card and ornaments gifted to us by Shadowfax's employees! [Photos ] Gift Bags — Students in our Medical Professions program made gift bags, which will be distributed to residents of Pleasant Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. The bags contain personal items, sweet treats, and positive messages to spread holiday cheer throughout the facility. Megan Abel '23 is the activities director at Pleasant Acres, and she worked with Ms. Hawkins, one of our Medical Professions instructors, to initiate this annual tradition. We're very thankful to have alumni, teachers, and students who make giving back to the community a priority! [Photos ] Need to Know Winter Break — The last day of school before winter break will be Friday, Dec. 20. There will be no school from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1. School will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2. More details are available on the school calendar, located at this link . Spartan Review Distribution — This will be the last issue of Spartan Review until after the winter break. The next issue will be distributed on or around Saturday, Jan. 4. Spirit Days! — Students are encouraged to wear holiday colors (red, green, blue, gold, yellow) on Dec. 18, holiday sweaters and socks on Dec. 19, and pajama bottoms and holiday accessories on Dec. 20. Hot chocolate will be served during lunches on Dec. 20. All other dress code requirements will be in effect. Winter Coat Drive — The Hub is an in-school resource center that contains free clothing and other essentials for York Tech students in need. Donations help to keep The Hub appropriately stocked. Currently, the items most needed are new or gently used winter coats. If you'd like to contribute, please send in coats with a current student or deliver them to one of York Tech's offices during school hours before Dec. 20. Thank you for considering this opportunity to assist our Spartans! Musical Auditions — Auditions for the spring musical, West Side Story , will be held on Jan. 4. Students who would like to audition must click on the link and complete the form. Additionally, free dance workshops are being offered to any who’d like to prepare for auditions. < Back Parent-Teacher Conferences Parent-teacher conferences for the first semester will be conducted from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024. This round of conferences is specifically for academic classes, not technical classes. All conferences will be conducted virtually. Registration is required and can be completed through Skyward starting Monday, Sept. 9, 2024. (Once registration opens, please click this link for instructions.) < Back Senior Class Trip The Senior Class trip will be on Wednesday, May 22. It will take place on a Charter Lunch Cruise in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The anticipated schedule is below. 9:30 a.m. — Depart from York Tech 11 a.m. — Arrive at the Inner Harbor 2 p.m. — Depart from the Inner Harbor 3:30 p.m. — Arrive at York Tech Tickets will include a buffet lunch, transportation, DJ, entertainment on board the ship, and spectacular views of the city skyline and local landmarks. [More Info ] Award of Excellence — Congratulations to Ms. Georgiann Warner, York Tech's co-op coordinator, who was presented with the Don Gamble Cooperative Education Award by the Pennsylvania Cooperative Education Association on Oct. 20! This award is given annually to the cooperative coordinator of the year, and Ms. Warner is most definitely deserving. She works tirelessly to ensure York Tech students have access to rewarding work opportunities in their fields of study. [Photos ] Field Trip — Some of Mr. Jamison’s Precision Machining Technology students received a tour of the Harley Davidson manufacturing facility on Friday, Oct. 20. They took a simulated, hands-on welding course plus the assembly line’s entrance exam. It was an extremely informative trip, and Mr. Jamison even crossed paths with a former York Tech student, Will Anthony IV, who works at Harley Davidson! [Photos ] Senior Night — York Tech students are able to play soccer through our partnership with York Country Day School. The girls' team celebrated Senior Night on Monday, Oct. 16, with a win over Christian School of York. Thank you to the team's lone senior, Talim Leschke, for representing both schools so well! [Photos ] Athletics Updates — The varsity football team survived tough weather conditions during the homecoming game on Oct. 14 to defeat Fairfield 8-6. The contest was won thanks to a late safety and a game-sealing interception. Girls’ soccer picked up a quality win over Christian School of York on Oct. 16 by a score of 2-0. Later that evening, girls’ volleyball defeated William Penn in straight sets to finish Senior Night in style. The next day, both cross country teams competed in the YAIAA League Championships at John Rudy Park. Four girls and four boys qualified to compete in the PIAA District III Championship race. < Back 2025 Car Show York Tech's Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Club will present the Power and Precision Auto Show on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The event will take place at York Tech (2179 S. Queen St., York, PA) from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The rain date will be Saturday, May 24. There will be a $5 entry fee per parking spot. All makes and models are welcome, including American, imports, trucks, and exotic vehicles. Admission is free for spectators. The festivities will include a car show, vendors, and food trucks. All profits from this event will benefit York Tech's Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Club. Vendors and those wishing to enter a vehicle in the show should complete the preregistration form to reserve a parking spot. All preregistrations must be received before May 2, 2025. Outstanding Technology — A phone call was made Friday evening to the families of students who have an outstanding technology obligation. This means the student has a charger, laptop, or loaner device that needs to be returned to the IT Department before school concludes for the year on Wednesday, May 21. They learned about herd health and gestational periods for sheep and alpacas. Afterward, everyone was given the opportunity to feed and pet the animals, and some even held Genesis, a one-month-old baby alpaca! [Photos ] Need to Know Conferences — Virtual parent-teacher conferences for the first semester will be conducted from 5-8 p.m. on Nov. 20. This round of conferences is specifically for academic classes, not technical classes. U.S. History — Mr. Collins is teaching his U.S. History classes about the Gilded Age (1877-1900) and its similarities to today's economy. This unit covers the Robber Barons — John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan, among others — who accrued massive wealth during the Gilded Age due to their ruthless business tactics, while also revolutionizing industry by introducing technological improvements. Last week, students took a break from their studies to channel the mindset of these tycoons by playing Monopoly. We had the chance to visit his classroom last month, and we observed the Chess Club in action on Nov. 15. < Back Homecoming 2024 Date & Time This year’s homecoming dance will be held at York Tech from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. The homecoming football game will be held on the same day at 10 a.m. against Bermudian Springs in York Tech’s stadium. Attendance & Tickets All York Tech students are invited to attend, but only juniors and seniors will be permitted to attend the dance with outside guests. Tickets will be sold from approximately Sept. 6-20. The sales link will be posted below in the near future. Tickets will cost $20 per person. TICKET SALES LINK: Sales Have Ended (The sales page will appear blank until it is live.) After making an online purchase, no physical or digital ticket will be issued. However, students must retain the electronic receipt and present it at the door as proof of purchase. The name of each student for whom a ticket is purchased will be recorded and used to verify attendance eligibility on the day of the dance. Outside Guests All non-York Tech dance guests must be pre-registered by submitting this form . The completed form should be turned into the high school office before a ticket is purchased for the individual. Visit the high school office for a printed copy of the form. Theme and Dress The theme of the dance will be A Night at the Movies . This is a semi-formal event, and students should dress accordingly. Jeans and hats will not be permitted at this event. Ballroom Closet York Tech students in need of dance attire may visit the Ballroom Closet, located in The HUB, on A-days during homeroom starting the week of Sept. 23 and during intervention periods on Sept. 25 and Oct. 2. Gowns, suits, and men’s and women’s shoes will be available. All items are free of charge. Dinner Food trucks, such as Killer Eats, SoCo Tacos, Premium Shaved Ice, and On My Grind Coffee, will be on campus selling food from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Students will have the option to pay for food from these vendors. Light refreshments will also be available at no charge. We’ve been working with local law enforcement to assess the impacts of these events. They will cause significant traffic disruptions around our normal dismissal time and impact multiple York Tech bus routes to adjacent member districts. Therefore, York Tech will be dismissing early at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 . Please review the early dismissal schedule in advance. Any changes to after-school activities will be communicated to students by their coaches and advisors. Students enrolled in full-time flex programs through our Adult & Continuing Education Center will also leave early at 12:45 p.m. They may ride the afternoon buses like usual. Otherwise, the Adult & Continuing Education Center’s operations will not be affected by the high school’s early dismissal. Finally, this is a friendly reminder that there will be a planned two-hour delay for high school students Friday, Sept. 26 .
