Courses English [Keystone] , Science [Keystone] , and Social Studies Weight 1.0 All classes are adapted and modified from the regular education curriculum to meet the needs of IEP students. Keystone exam for literature will be given after completion of English 2 and Biology exam after completion of biology. Algebra A (300AL) [NCAA] 1.0 credit, Grade 9, Weight 1.0 Algebra A is the first of two full year algebra courses offered to students who have an IEP. Students will solve problems that involve real numbers, algebraic expressions, solving equations and inequalities, using formulas, reading problems, polynomials, graphing, and factoring. Students will develop critical thinking skills and number awareness throughout the course. Algebra B (300BL) [NCAA] 1.0 credit, Grade 10, Weight 1.0 Algebra B is the second full year math course offered to students with an IEP. Students must successfully complete Algebra A prior to completing Algebra B. Students who complete both courses will meet the Algebra 1 requirement for graduation. Students will solve problems that involve real numbers, algebraic expressions, solving equations and inequalities, using formulas, reading problems, polynomials, graphing, and factoring. Students will develop critical thinking skills and number awareness throughout the course. Prerequisite: Algebra A and B. Algebra/Geometry Concepts (304L) 1.0 credit, Grade 11, Weight 1.0 Algebra and Geometry Concepts is a full year course offered to students with an IEP. Students must complete Algebra A and B prior to entering this course. This course will prepare students to take the Keystone Algebra Exam in the first half of the year. Content includes: algebraic expressions, solving equations and inequalities, graphing, functions, factoring and polynomials. The second portion of the year students will explore various concepts of Geometry including: points, lines, angles, triangles, parallel lines, quadrilaterals, polygons, circles, perimeter, area, and volume. Logical thinking, reasoning, and constructions will also be included. Prerequisite: Algebra A and B. Application Based Math (307L) 1.0 credit, Grade 12, Weight 1.0 Application Based Math focuses on mathematical reasoning and problem solving for students with an IEP. This course is designed to guide students with examples and activities that they may encounter in their daily lives. Mathematical topics consist of basic algebra, geometry, banking, and money management. Prerequisites: Algebra A and B. Skills for Success (950) 1.0 credit, Grade 9-12, Weight 1.0 Skills for Success is determined by IEP placement. It is designed for students who are in need of a support period to assist with social–emotional skills not taught in a traditional academic setting. The primary goal of this course is to increase the students’ basic social and behavioral skills that are necessary for them to function in a mainstream setting and in the community. The class will focus on transitioning from middle school to high school to the world of work or college. This will include personal responsibility, organizational skills, coping skills, team building skills, and time management. In order to be enrolled in this course, it must be written into the student’s IEP. Suggested Math Progression The following is provided to give students an idea of how they could potentially progress through the math courses over a four-year period. < Back Back-to-School Info We hope your summer has been enjoyable and relaxing! As you begin to prepare for the start of a new school year, please review this page and the important reminders it contains. Feel free to call us at 717-741-0820 x5112 with any questions. Important Dates Aug. 12 — Deadline to order uniforms (details below) Aug. 14 — Back-to-School Night (details below) Aug. 20 — All new students entering Grades 9-10 report Aug. 21 — All students report Back-to-School Night All new and returning students and their families are invited to attend Back-to-School Night on Aug. 14. Attendees may visit during one of two sessions: 12:30-3 p.m. and 5:30-8 p.m. During the event, students may pick up a hard copy of their schedule, visit with teachers, and stop by various informational stations. New students will also be given their laptops and Spartan JAM shirts. Please note that all in-person uniform purchases have been discontinued, including during Back-to-School Night. Uniform orders made through the online School Store by Aug. 12 will be available for pick up during Back-to-School Night. First Day for New Students All new students entering Grades 9-10 will begin school on Aug. 20. The day will include a unique event called Spartan JAM and other orientation activities. Please visit this link prior to Aug. 20 for important details about the day’s dress requirements and itinerary. School Calendar The school calendar can be found at ytech.edu/calendar . Several changes were approved in May, so parents and caregivers should discard previous versions and download the updated document. School Day Entry & Dismissal Students will be admitted into the building on school days at 7:40 a.m. The warning bell will ring at 8:05 a.m., and students must be in their home room at 8:10 a.m. Dismissal will be at 3 p.m. each day. Skyward Access The following information will be made available in Skyward starting on Wednesday, Aug. 7 , unless noted otherwise: Schedules — Student schedules will be available in the Schedule section of Skyward. Bus Transportation — Bus stop locations and pick-up times will be found in the Transportation section of Skyward on or slightly after Wednesday, Aug. 7. Students should arrive at their stops 10 minutes prior to the listed pick-up time. If the bus is running late, students should wait at the stop for 20 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. Student Lockers — Student locker numbers and combinations will be found under the Student Profile section of Skyward. Skyward Online Forms — Parents and caregivers should log in to Skyward and complete the required forms (some of which are shown on this screenshot ) for each student enrolled in York Tech. The forms include things like emergency contacts, demographics, health information, Acceptable Use Policy, and Student Handbook. Student Parking Permits — Parents and caregivers can complete the online parking permit form through Skyward. The parking permit application cannot be submitted by students, and printed forms are no longer accepted. Students are permitted to park in the designated student areas outlined on this map . Cafeteria — All students will receive free breakfast during the 2024-25 school year. Parents and caregivers may put money in students’ cafeteria accounts by using Skyward. Click on the Food Service tile and select the Click Here button to make a payment. Information on cafeteria services, including free and reduced meal forms, can be found on the Food Services page of our website. Senior Open Lunch Permission Form — Eligible seniors who wish to receive an open lunch must have a parent or caregiver complete the Senior Open Lunch Permission Form through Skyward. Free and Reduced Meals A new free and reduced meal application must be submitted every school year for qualified families, even if an application was approved last school year. Additionally, both York Tech and a family’s home school district must receive a new free and reduced meal application if the family has students attending both York Tech and the home school district. Visit the Food Services page of our website and click on the Free & Reduced Meals section to access the current applications. Attendance Procedures Please visit ytech.edu/attendance to learn about properly reporting student absences, early dismissals, and tardiness. Student Laptop Distribution Laptops will be distributed to new students during Back-to-School Night on Aug. 14 and Spartan JAM on Aug. 20. All students should bring their school-issued laptops with them on the first day of school. Student Cell Phone Usage Please review page 15 the Student Handbook with your child regarding York Tech’s policy for the use of electronic devices in school. Limiting the use of cell phones is critical to maintaining distraction-free learning environments. Dress Code Technical uniforms are an important part of the professional culture at York Tech. They promote school spirit, cultivate a sense of belonging, and contribute to an environment focused on learning. As such, all students are required to abide by the uniform requirements each school day. Dress code requirements can be found on page 13 of the Student Handbook . Deadline to Order Uniforms In-person uniform purchases have been discontinued. All purchases must be made through the online School Store . Those wishing to place a uniform order and pick it up before the first day of school must submit the online order no later than noon on Aug. 12. Orders placed by this deadline will be available for pickup during Back-to-School Night on Aug. 14. Specific uniform requirements for each program can be found by visiting ytech.edu/career-programs , clicking on a program name, and downloading the document located in the uniform section. Student Pictures Students in Grades 9-11 will have their pictures taken on Aug. 27 for yearbook and photo I.D. purposes. Seniors will take pictures on Aug. 27 for photo I.D. purposes and on Aug. 30 for formal yearbook poses. (Drapes and tuxes will be provided on Aug 30.) Picture retakes for all students will be on Oct. 17. Jostens will email online order forms to families in the near future. All students MUST have their picture taken even if they do not intend to buy a photo package. (The pictures will be used to print student IDs.) Students should wear their uniforms on picture day. They will have the opportunity to change into a school-appropriate shirt of their choice for pictures. School-Wide Communication Please visit ytech.edu/comms-pr to learn more about how important information will be communicated during the school year, including closings and delays. Environmental Club Description All York Tech students are invited to participate in the Environmental Club, which is committed to getting members outdoors and in touch with local natural resources. Activities include local hiking, community service projects, and attending special programs to foster an appreciation for nature. The club’s engagement ranges from working with local leaders in the community to learning how to be stewards of the environment to just spending time together outdoors. < Back Spirit Week York Tech's Drama Club will be hosting a Spirit Week from March 18-21 , 2025, to celebrate the upcoming musical, West Side Story . All clothing must be school appropriate and adhere to the dress code, as outlined in the Student Handbook. Tuesday, March 18 Music/Artist Appreciation Day — Wear a shirt with your favorite artist or band on it. Traveling Tom’s Coffee Truck will be at lunches. Wednesday, March 19 Vintage Clothing Day — Wear vintage clothing to represent the many decades of West Side Story in musical theater. Kona Ice Truck will be at lunches. Grade 9 — 1960s Grade 10 — 1970s Grade 11 — 1980s Grade 12 — 1990s Thursday, March 20 Teachers vs. Students — Students should dress like teachers, and teachers should dress like students to promote unity amongst students and staff. Farm Show milkshakes will be sold at lunches. Friday, March 21 Green and White Day — Wear green and white to celebrate students from 14 school districts coming together as one!
