The visit coincided with Women in Construction Week, which was March 3-9. An already awesome event was made even better when Ms. German, a York Tech alumna, reconnected with her former Electrical Occupations instructor, Mr. Brown. We really appreciated learning about the unique perspectives of these inspiring guest speakers! [Photos ] Spartan Spa — During the school year, students in our Licensed Cosmetology program operate the Spartan Spa, which offers most services found in full-service salons. [Zoom ] 2024 Yearbook — The yearbook is coming along beautifully and will be delivered to York Tech this spring. [Order ] Summer Volleyball Camps — All-American Volleyball Camps will hold two camps at York Tech in July. The first will be for York Tech female students entering Grades 9-12, and the other will be for boys and girls entering Grades 6-8. [Tickets ] Spartans in Action Electrical Upgrades — When our HVAC program needed electrical upgrades, Mr. Brown knew it was the perfect opportunity for some of his Electrical Occupations students to show off their skills. They installed six service disconnects that supply four 480-volt and two 208-volt rooftop units. Raceways for the feed conductors were also added using over 200 feet of one-inch rigid conduit. It was a challenging project that took a few weeks, but our Spartans handled it with precision and professionalism! [Photos ] States Qualifier — Aaliyah Hall will be representing York Tech during the Pennsylvania High School Bowling Championships on March 15-16! She advanced to states thanks to a stellar fifth-place finish in qualifying during the Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Championships last weekend. Good luck, Aaliyah! [Photos ] [Article ] Engine Rebuild Race — York Tech hosted the 1st Annual Engine Rebuild Race on March 1, which highlighted our Powersports & Engine Technology program and the equivalent courses at other schools. Students competed to see which two-person team could completely disassemble a Briggs & Stratton engine and get it running again in the shortest amount of time. Congratulations to Gabe Luckenbaugh and Brayden Warner from York Tech for finishing first! [Photos ] Bocce Success — York Tech’s unified bocce team competed in the Pennsylvania Eastern Regional Championships on Thursday, Feb. 7, and brought back the fourth place ribbon. Great job, Spartans! Guest Speakers — This year, Green Career Week was March 4-8. Our Landscaping & Agriculture program benefited from two guest speakers as part of the week's festivities. Phil Holloway, CEO of Go Green Customized Lawn Care, and Alan Miller, owner of River Rock Landscape, visited with students to demonstrate equipment, discuss green career opportunities, and share their expertise.     < Back Athletics Highlights Division Champs Our varsity cross country teams celebrated Senior Night and competed against four other schools on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Both squads swept the meet, which allowed the boys' team to secure the YAIAA Division III title! Congratulations to the members of both teams, especially the four seniors: Emily Calp, Anna Foster, Hayden Mathena, and Kaylee Stimpson! Click here to view photos of the meet. JV Cross Country The boys' JV cross country team competed in its final race of the season on Oct. 10, 2024. Our Spartans finished on a high note by earning personal records and showing that York Tech will continue to be a dominant team in the YAIAA. The highlight of the race was when first-year student Kaden Wagaman finished in second place, right behind his brother, who is a senior in the Red Lion Area School District. Congratulations, Spartans! Click here to view two post-race pictures of Kaden. Junior High Football The junior high football team faced off against Camp Hill during a home game on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The squad once again flashed its massive potential by earning a resilient victory! Photos of the game can be viewed at this link .   • Sugar Art Competition

    < Back Sugar Art Competition Mark your calendar! The annual White Rose Sugar Art Competition is coming to York Tech, and the theme is outer space! This two-day competition will be held Nov. 2-3, 2024, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. It will include baking divisions for every skill level, such as: Children Pre-Teen Teen/Vocational Beginner Intermediate Advanced/Semi-Professional Professional Master Categories will include: Occasion Cake Novelty Cake Tiered Cake Decorated Cookies Cupcakes Confections And More Those interested in registering for the competition should visit https://qr1.be/N8Y7 for more information.     < Back Welding Teacher Job Type: Full Time Apply Now Job Overview & Description General Description: The Welding Teacher will be responsible for teaching high school students the skills and theory in the welding and metal fabrication curriculum Required Qualifications : The individual to be hired to the position of Welding Teacher must meet the following conditions and qualifications: PA CTE Teaching Certification in Welding strongly preferred. Noncertified candidates must have at least four years of full time (or equivalent) work experience within the field after their high school graduation date. Candidates not possessing PA teaching certification must be willing to complete required college coursework and testing requirements to obtain full certification. Evidence of completion of a formal welding training program strongly preferred. Knowledge of welding and metal fabrication supplies, equipment, and safety guidelines. Ability to communicate with a diverse group of students, parents, coworkers, and the community in a manner which demonstrates dignity and respect. The School reserves the right to excuse any applicant from meeting one or more of the listed qualification requirements, provided the applicant possesses other qualifications in addition to the minimum set forth herein, and that the School deems those qualifications to be an adequate and acceptable substitute for the particular qualification(s) not possessed by the applicant. Key Responsibilities: The Welding Teacher must have the ability to perform the following essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations: Instruct students in grades 9—12 in various aspects of welding and metal fabrication including but not limited to gas, arc, shielded and non-shielded metal arc, MIG and TIG, brazing, flame cutting and plastic welding. Hand, semi-automatic, and automatic welding processes components are included. Teach safety practices and types and uses of electrodes and welding rods; properties of metals; blueprint reading; electrical principles; welding symbols and mechanical drawing; use of equipment for testing welds by ultrasonic methods and destruction and hardness testing; use of manuals and specification charts; use of portable grinders and chemical baths for surface cleaning; positioning and clamping; and welding standards established by the American Welding Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and American Bureau of Ships. Create and implement lesson plans conforming to school requirements for content and/or format. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit grade reports as required. Create a positive environment conducive toward learning. Work cooperatively with other staff members and promote a cohesive team-based approach to the program and curriculum. Contact parents or guardians when necessary. Develop connections with local businesses and outside organizations to promote internships, sponsorships, and/or job placement. Attend school functions as required. Perform other duties as requested or assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator Physical/Environmental Demands: School and shop environment. Potential exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, smoke, loud noises, and unpleasant odors.     < Back Culinary Arts Teacher Job Type: Full Time Apply Now Job Overview & Description General Description: The Culinary Arts Teacher shall have responsibility for the instruction of high school students in the culinary arts program. Duties shall include classroom instruction, lesson plan design, progress monitoring, curriculum and content planning and collaboration with other culinary staff members. PA Instructional certification in Family and Consumer Science is also appropriate for this position. Noncertified candidates must have at least four years of full time (or equivalent) work experience within the field after their high school graduation date. Candidates not possessing PA teaching certification must be willing to complete required college coursework and testing requirements to obtain full certification.     National Honor Society Description The four main purposes of the National Honor Society are to recognize the importance of education, encourage service, promote leadership, and develop character. Being a member of this organization is an honor and provides students with opportunities to further develop these characteristics. A student must be a junior or senior with a cumulative grade point average of 88% or above in order to be eligible for NHS membership. Advisors Ms. Nicole Lau
