They learned about herd health and gestational periods for sheep and alpacas. Afterward, everyone was given the opportunity to feed and pet the animals, and some even held Genesis, a one-month-old baby alpaca! [Photos ] Need to Know Conferences — Virtual parent-teacher conferences for the first semester will be conducted from 5-8 p.m. on Nov. 20. This round of conferences is specifically for academic classes, not technical classes. Registration for the conferences is required and can be completed through Skyward by first visiting ycst.info/ptc23 for instructions. When scheduling a conference, if a teacher's conference schedule is full, please contact the high school office by calling 717-741-0820 x4999, so alternative arrangements can be made. Report Cards — Report cards for the first marking period are available in Skyward. A copy of your child's report card can be downloaded by logging into Skyward, selecting Portfolio, and clicking the download icon next to the appropriate file. [Skyward ] Cheerleading Tryouts — Cheerleading tryouts for the 2023-24 winter sports season will be conducted on Nov. 17, Nov. 20, and Nov. 21. The sessions will be held immediately after school from 3-5:30 p.m. each day. All York Tech students who wish to tryout must have completed physical paperwork. New Partnership Family First Health — We are proud to announce that we've partnered with Family First Health to provide additional resources for our students. Sandra Frecon, a community health worker with Family First Health, will be available once a week in the high school office to provide health-related services. [More ] Spartans in Action SkillsUSA — A group of York Tech students and advisors recently attended the 2023 SkillsUSA Central Region Fall Leadership Conference. They participated in workshops and unique activities, such as a tricycle race. SkillsUSA is focused on providing students with transformative career-readiness skills, and this conference certainly offered that for our Spartans! [Photos ] Adult Education — Earlier this month, Stauffer's engineering project manager, Bob Gohn, who is also a Microsoft certified systems engineer, visited our Mechatronics & Industrial Controls adult education class. He presented various sensors and explained how they are used with programmable logic controllers. He also explained the functions of Cognex cameras. Thank you for sharing your expertise, Mr. Gohn! One of her Landscaping & Agriculture classes took a field trip to Wertz Farm & Power Equipment, while a group of FFA members traveled to South Mountain Fairgrounds and participated in a veterinary skills competition. Those who visited Wertz Farm & Power Equipment learned about landscaping business concepts, tax strategies, income management, basic equipment maintenance, and new tools that will soon be on the market. Meanwhile, the five FFA competitors all represented York Tech very well. Kylie Dehoff and Cheyenne Waltemyer even finished in the top ten! [Photos ] Staff Recognition — American Education Week was Nov. 13-17. This period honored everyone who works in our nation's schools, including bus drivers, teachers, administrators, custodians, nurses, aides, and many more. Our employees are top notch, and we'd like to sincerely thank them for their unwavering commitment to the success of Spartan Nation and our students! U.S. History — Mr. Collins is teaching his U.S. History classes about the Gilded Age (1877-1900) and its similarities to today's economy. This unit covers the Robber Barons — John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan, among others — who accrued massive wealth during the Gilded Age due to their ruthless business tactics, while also revolutionizing industry by introducing technological improvements. Last week, students took a break from their studies to channel the mindset of these tycoons by playing Monopoly. [Photos ] Class Visits — Mr. Beiler is the Chess Club advisor and our Electronics & IT Support instructor. We had the chance to visit his classroom last month, and we observed the Chess Club in action on Nov. 15. The Electronics & IT Support students were working with a Windows command line utility program, and the club members discussed advanced strategies for specific game situations. We enjoyed listening to the in-depth conversations! [Chess Photos ] [IT Photos ] NAHB — Students in our Construction Trades and Architecture & Construction Technology programs have the chance to join the York Tech chapter of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The group met after school on Nov. 15 to continue its work for the 2024 NAHB Student Competition. The contest requires them to develop a complete set of working drawings, detailed cost estimates, and a complete construction schedule for a housing project in Park City, Utah. Good luck, Spartans! < Back Sports Physicals WellSpan has increased its prices for walk-in physicals from $15 to $40. However, $15 physicals will be offered temporarily on the following dates: Nov. 3, 2025 , 5:30-7:30 p.m., WellSpan Orthopedics West York Nov. 4, 2025 , 5-7 p.m., WellSpan Orthopedics Hanover These events are specifically for York Tech and York Country Day School student-athletes who are planning on playing a sport for the 2025-26 school year. Student-athletes MUST sign up ahead of time; no walk-ins will be accepted. If applicable, wear your contacts/glasses. Appointment times are first come, first served and can be reserved using the following links: Register for Nov. 3, 2025 Register for Nov. 4, 2025 One athlete is permitted per spot, so, for example, two siblings would need to reserve two spots. Physicals obtained through WellSpan outside of this event will be at the $40 rate. As a reminder, student-athletes who wish to participate in a sport during the 2025-26 school year must submit a sports physical on the proper PIAA form dated May 1 or later. < Back Homecoming Traffic Issues PennDOT has scheduled repairs for the Queen Street bridge over I-83 to start this Friday, Oct. 13. Unfortunately, the work will coincide with our homecoming festivities, including the Saturday morning football game and Saturday evening dance. We anticipate potentially significant traffic issues around York Tech as a result of the construction. Below are excerpts from FOX43’s Oct. 6 article about the bridge project, which details what motorists can expect. The full article can be found at https://ycst.info/3qashge . “I-83 traffic will be detoured using the off- and on-ramps at the Exit 16 Interchange, Penn DOT said. Motorists traveling south on Queen Street from north of the closure should take southbound I-83 to Route 182/Leader Heights Road (Exit 14), then return north on I-83 to Exit 16 and the south side of the Queen Street bridge. Motorists traveling north on Queen Street from south of the closure should take northbound I-83 to Route 124/Mount Rose Avenue (Exit 18), then return south on I-83 to Exit 16 and the north side of the Queen Street bridge. There may be delays along the detour route. Spartans in Action Guest Speakers — Thank you to Jamie Rockmore and Kirk Strausbaugh with APX York Sheet Metal for visiting Mr. Yarrison's welding class on Oct. 11. They observed the students at work and gave constructive feedback about what they saw. Additionally, Ms. Rockmore and Mr. Strausbaugh answered questions and provided great industry insight. [Photos ] Interacting with Nature — Mr. Barton and Mr. Smith’s co-taught Environmental Science class had a unique and teachable moment last week thanks to a friendly garter snake. The reptile was found on school property, and students were able to observe and hold it. [Photos ] Senior Night — York Tech students are able to play soccer through our partnership with York Country Day School. Last week, the boys' team celebrated Senior Night with a win over Dayspring Christian Academy. We're proud of this awesome group, which represents both schools very well! [Photos ] HROT in Hanover — Our Hot Rodders of Tomorrow (HROT) teams performed in Hanover on Saturday, Sept. 30. Check out these clips taken by a few of the team members. Those who attended the event were able to watch an impressive display of engine-building skills! Athletics Updates — The field hockey team played Fairfield on Oct. 9, which was also Senior Night, and earned a 2-0 victory. Later that evening, the girls’ volleyball team defeated Northeastern in five sets. Our cross country teams celebrated Senior Night on Oct. 10, and both squads ended the season with winning conference records. Field hockey was at it again on Oct. 11 when it beat Waynesboro to earn its tenth win of the season and a possible shot at qualifying for Districts!
