- Computer Systems Technology | York Tech Spartans
< Back Computer Systems Technology Overview This program prepares students to maintain, support, and upgrade computers and mobile devices. Students learn how the components of a computer interact with the operating system software so they can apply that knowledge when troubleshooting a faulty computer system. Students will perform repairs and upgrades to hardware, software, and other IT-related devices; learn more about electronics and how circuits make IT equipment function; and maintain and troubleshoot computers so they operate effectively and remain virus free. Possible Certifications IT Fundamentals A+ OSHA Certification Potential Career Opportunities What to Expect Students interested in this program will take courses in Computer Programming & Interactive Media, Computer Systems Technology, and Network Systems & Cyber Security for the first two school years. After sophomore year, students will apply for full-time entrance into one of the three programs, and they will be accepted based on merit and other criteria. Students who are not approved for their first choice will be assigned to one of the other two programs included in the rotation. Careers Uniform Students at York Tech are required to wear a uniform at all times. While in their shop classes, they must wear the uniform designated by the program instructor. At all other times, students may wear their shop uniform OR York Tech apparel, which is sold through the School Store and the Fan Shop . Please review the Student Handbook for a full explanation of the dress code. The specific uniform requirements for Computer Systems Technology can be viewed below. Courses Personal Finance I (704) 0.5 Credit, Grade 10-12, Weight 1.0 This course equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently navigate the financial choices they encounter in everyday life. Through real-world examples and hands-on activities, students will learn how to create and manage a personal budget, establish a consistent savings plan, and understand the power of interest, compound interest, and investments. They will also explore how to evaluate financial products and services, compare options, and make informed decisions about borrowing and credit. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to apply these financial strategies to both their current needs and their future goals. This course is a graduation requirement beginning with the Class of 2029. Personal Finance II (705) 0.5 Credit, Grade 10-12, Weight 1.0 This course is designed to take the personal finance 1 course to the next level. The course will expand on previously learned material like investing and taxes and introduce new topics like consumer awareness and the role of insurance. If you like money and want to know how it works, this is the class for you. Prerequisite: Personal Finance I Career Skills (706) 0.5 Credit, Grade 11-12, Weight 1.0 Students will conduct personal research, career research, and post–secondary education research. They will learn basic employability skills, work ethics, business networking skills, decision–making and planning skills, and customer service skills. Students will also prepare cover letters, employment applications, resumes, interview techniques and thank you letters. In addition, the course will provide some insight into small business ownership. Small Business Ownership (707) 0.5 Credit, Grade 11-12, Weight 1.0 This beginner level course introduces students to the fundamentals of small business ownership and entrepreneurship. Students will learn about the traits of entrepreneurs, basic economic concepts, and essential business skills such as marketing, branding, sales, goal setting, and how to create a business plan. News & Notes Accessing Schoology — Schoology is an academic resource for parents and caregivers that allows them to see students’ course assignments, communicate with teachers, and more. PSAT for Juniors — The Preliminary SAT test will be offered at York Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 11. All juniors are eligible to take the test, but they must sign up in the Student Services Department with Ms. Lofland by Wednesday, Sept. 13. (Juniors enrolled in AP/IB/Honors English are automatically signed up to take the PSATs.) Students should contact their school counselor with questions. Soccer Preview — We recently visited a preseason practice to see how our boys' and girls' soccer squads are shaping up. Both teams, which are co-sponsored by York Tech and York Country Day School, appear to be poised for solid seasons! XC Attends Race — Members of our cross country team attended The Arc of York County’s annual Rail Trail 10-Miler on Saturday, Aug. 26. One group distributed water to runners, while another competed in the race. [Photos ] Scholarship Opportunity — Current juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for the TechLink Dual Enrollment Scholarship. Recipients will be able to take two free dual-enrollment courses through Harrisburg Area Community College. Applications must be submitted by Oct. 10, 2023. More details can be found at this link . Donations Needed — The Hub is a resource center at York Tech that contains free clothing, school supplies, and other essentials for students in need. Donations help to keep The Hub stocked. Schedules for all of our teams can be found at this link . Baseball The JV baseball team faced Milton Hershey on Friday, May 3. Both teams played very well, but, when the dust cleared, our Spartans came out on top. Track & Field During the YAIAA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, May 8, both York Tech teams took home numerous individual and team honors. Tasiyah Johnson set two school records by breaking her own marks in the 400 and running the fastest leg of the 4x800 relay, which broke the school record by four seconds. Tasiyah also anchored the medal winning 4x400 relay team. Rhea Flores also ran on those two relays teams and broke the school record in the 800 by almost three seconds. The girls 4x100 relay team (Janiyah Newman-Scott, Kayden Parris, Aniyah Jones, Aaliyah Hall) also broke the school record. - 2024-25 Sports Physicals
< Back 2024-25 Sports Physicals Student-athletes planning to play a sport during the 2024-25 school year must complete the 2024-25 Sports Physical & Eligibility Forms before they can participate. Completed forms must be handed to the appropriate coach or submitted to the Athletics Department by dropping them off at York Tech's kiosk immediately inside door #1, which faces Pauline Drive. All forms dropped off at York Tech should be placed in an envelope and labeled, "Attn: Athletics Director." Walk-in physicals can be completed at any WellSpan location or by scheduling an appointment with a family physician. Additionally, physicals will be offered at York Tech by appointment only on June 4 and July 24.
