Thanks to pilot Cpl. Charles Law, a helicopter from the Pennsylvania State Police landed near the football practice field. Students in our Criminal Justice program were able to learn more about the helicopter and what it takes to become a police pilot. It was a truly awesome experience! Upcoming Event Nov. 17-19 — The Play That Goes Wrong [Buy Tickets ] Spartans in Action Super Bee — Gears-N-Grub is a monthly event that allows students in our automotive-related programs to learn more about interesting vehicles up close. This month's visitors were Mike Lewis, a graduate of West York Area School District, and several representatives from Stetler Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram. Mr. Lewis brought his 1969 Dodge Super Bee, which was a huge hit! [Photos ] Guest Speaker — Dave Bauman, a state science advisor with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, visited our Early Childhood Education program on Nov. 2. Part of the presentation included a bridge-making challenge to illustrate several classroom teaching techniques. This activity also reinforced concepts being covered by our Early Childhood Education instructors, Ms. Miller and Dr. Pero. Thank you, Mr. Bauman! [Photos ] New Tool Kits — Last week, our first-year Electrical Occupations classes received new tool kits. The students unpacked the boxes and engraved each piece with their initials. Thanks to the grant with which the equipment was purchased, they will get to keep the kits upon graduating from York Tech. Not only will they have the skills to start a career in the electrical field, but they'll also have the tools, which will likely be a bonus for potential employers! [Photos ] Día de Muertos — Students taking Spanish II with Ms. Lupian recently celebrated Día de Muertos, a Mexican holiday that honors friends and family members who have died. They learned more about the holiday and created colorful altars in honor of loved ones or celebrities who have passed. [Photos ] Field Trip — Students in our Landscaping & Agriculture program visited the Country Club of York on Oct. 30. They transplanted a tree, learned how to mow the greens, and toured the gardens. It was another great hands-on experience for this group! [Photos ] Athletics Updates — Seven York Tech cross country runners qualified for and competed in the District III AAA Cross Country Championships, which were held on Oct. 28. The seven runners were Adam Gaidos, Isaiah Marine, Nicholas Urey, Ryan Bishoff, Kaylee Stimpson, Rhea Flores, and Anna Foster. Kaylee had the best finish by placing 117 out of 237. < Back Athletics Highlights Please congratulate members of the JV and varsity girls' volleyball teams for their fine wins over Fairfield on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024. The matches were each team's home opener. Also, congratulations to Coach McDonald for earning his first win in his first game as a JV volleyball coach! Way to go, Spartans! Additionally, the JV girls’ volleyball team competed in a tournament at Solanco High School on Friday, Aug. 30. Thanks to some inspired play, the group finished in second place and took home silver medals. Congratulations, Spartans! First, it was named the winner of the 2023-24 spring YAIAA Sportsmanship Award for track and field. Additionally, Eli Steel and Pearce Alleyne medaled at the District III meet, which qualified them for the PIAA State Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University. During the state meet, Pearce Alleyne finished eighth in the state of Pennsylvania for discus. (View a picture of Pearce and Coach Landis during the PIAA championships at this link .) < Back Two-Hour Delay on Jan. 17 Due to potentially challenging road conditions, York Tech’s high school and adult education programs will operate on a two-hour delay schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 17. The high school's two-hour delay schedule can be found at https://ycst.info/delay23-24 . Buses will pick up students two hours after their normal pick-up times. (For example, if a student’s bus regularly arrives at 6:45 a.m., it will arrive at approximately 8:45 a.m.) Breakfast will be served. Custodial, maintenance, and food service employees should report at their normal times. All other staff members should report two hours after their regular start times. Dr. Rogers and a group of students did just that by traveling to the State Capitol on Feb. 6 to share their stories with three legislators: Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill, Rep. Kate Klunk, and Rep. Wendy Fink. Additionally, the students were able to observe preparations for Gov. Shapiro's budget address and see the beginning stages of a peaceful protest outside the East Wing. [Photos ] Need to Know Black History Month — In honor of Black History Month, we’d like to highlight 38 Black pioneers, inventors, entrepreneurs, and others who have positively impacted many aspects of life. [Posters ] Conferences — Parent-teacher conferences for the second semester will be conducted from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15. Game of the Week Feb. 13 — Winter Track Invitational, @West Chester Henderson H.S. , 2:30 p.m. Spartans in Action School Counseling Week — Feb. 5-9 is National School Counseling Week, and we're fortunate to have six tremendous counselors: Nola Bassett, Dylan Maxwell, Shante Morant, Estrella Pizarro, Bruce Riley, and Samuel Shaw. These individuals guide our Spartans through stressful personal issues, course scheduling, post-graduation planning, and many other critical situations. [Photos ] Adult Education Guests — Jonathan Cirillo, a project and contracts manager with PPL, visited our Adult & Continuing Education Center’s Mechatronics and Industrial Controls Technology program on Feb. 5. He explained how the power grid works and shared possible job opportunities with PPL. A second guest from Asplundh talked about job opportunities related to servicing the automation in substations. [Recipients ] Music Festival — For the third time this school year, York Tech students represented Spartan Nation in a music festival. This time, Aleena Edwards (bass clarinet), Jonathan DeArment (trumpet), and Xander Roberts (percussion) participated in the 2024 York County High School Honors Band, which was hosted by Northeastern High School and Central York High School on Feb. 2-3. The group worked with Dr. Inkster, a guest conductor from York College, before concluding the festival with an outstanding concert. [Photos ] HROT Back in Action — Fresh off finishing second and fourth in nationals, our Hot Rodders of Tomorrow teams were on the road again this past weekend. Three squads displayed their engine-building talents at Racing Extravaganza 2024, with their focus on once again advancing to nationals. Richard performed very well for Lock Haven University by earning some much-needed points in the long jump (fourth place, 20’ 9.75”). He is also excelling in the classroom as a biomedical science major. Catching up with alumni and learning about their successes is one of many reasons why we love being Spartans! [Photos ] Spartan Artists — A number of students from Mr. Henderson's Commercial & Advertising Art program are participating in the 2023-24 York Community Art Scholars Exhibition (YCASE). She is currently ranked third in the county in two different events.
