    Environmental Club Description All York Tech students are invited to participate in the Environmental Club, which is committed to getting members outdoors and in touch with local natural resources. Activities include local hiking, community service projects, and attending special programs to foster an appreciation for nature. The club’s engagement ranges from working with local leaders in the community to learning how to be stewards of the environment to just spending time together outdoors.     < Back Spirit Week York Tech's Drama Club will be hosting a Spirit Week from March 18-21 , 2025, to celebrate the upcoming musical, West Side Story . All clothing must be school appropriate and adhere to the dress code, as outlined in the Student Handbook. Tuesday, March 18 Music/Artist Appreciation Day — Wear a shirt with your favorite artist or band on it. Traveling Tom’s Coffee Truck will be at lunches. Wednesday, March 19 Vintage Clothing Day — Wear vintage clothing to represent the many decades of West Side Story in musical theater. Kona Ice Truck will be at lunches. Grade 9 — 1960s Grade 10 — 1970s Grade 11 — 1980s Grade 12 — 1990s Thursday, March 20 Teachers vs. Students — Students should dress like teachers, and teachers should dress like students to promote unity amongst students and staff. Farm Show milkshakes will be sold at lunches. Friday, March 21 Green and White Day — Wear green and white to celebrate students from 14 school districts coming together as one! Thanks to pilot Cpl. Charles Law, a helicopter from the Pennsylvania State Police landed near the football practice field. Students in our Criminal Justice program were able to learn more about the helicopter and what it takes to become a police pilot. It was a truly awesome experience! Upcoming Event Nov. 17-19 — The Play That Goes Wrong [Buy Tickets ] Spartans in Action Super Bee — Gears-N-Grub is a monthly event that allows students in our automotive-related programs to learn more about interesting vehicles up close. This month's visitors were Mike Lewis, a graduate of West York Area School District, and several representatives from Stetler Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram. Mr. Lewis brought his 1969 Dodge Super Bee, which was a huge hit! [Photos ] Guest Speaker — Dave Bauman, a state science advisor with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, visited our Early Childhood Education program on Nov. 2. Part of the presentation included a bridge-making challenge to illustrate several classroom teaching techniques. This activity also reinforced concepts being covered by our Early Childhood Education instructors, Ms. Miller and Dr. Pero. Thank you, Mr. Bauman! [Photos ] New Tool Kits — Last week, our first-year Electrical Occupations classes received new tool kits. The students unpacked the boxes and engraved each piece with their initials. Thanks to the grant with which the equipment was purchased, they will get to keep the kits upon graduating from York Tech. Not only will they have the skills to start a career in the electrical field, but they'll also have the tools, which will likely be a bonus for potential employers! [Photos ] Día de Muertos — Students taking Spanish II with Ms. Lupian recently celebrated Día de Muertos, a Mexican holiday that honors friends and family members who have died. They learned more about the holiday and created colorful altars in honor of loved ones or celebrities who have passed. [Photos ] Field Trip — Students in our Landscaping & Agriculture program visited the Country Club of York on Oct. 30. They transplanted a tree, learned how to mow the greens, and toured the gardens. It was another great hands-on experience for this group! [Photos ] Athletics Updates — Seven York Tech cross country runners qualified for and competed in the District III AAA Cross Country Championships, which were held on Oct. 28. The seven runners were Adam Gaidos, Isaiah Marine, Nicholas Urey, Ryan Bishoff, Kaylee Stimpson, Rhea Flores, and Anna Foster. Kaylee had the best finish by placing 117 out of 237.     < Back Athletics Highlights Please congratulate members of the JV and varsity girls' volleyball teams for their fine wins over Fairfield on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024. The matches were each team's home opener. Also, congratulations to Coach McDonald for earning his first win in his first game as a JV volleyball coach! Way to go, Spartans! Additionally, the JV girls’ volleyball team competed in a tournament at Solanco High School on Friday, Aug. 30. Thanks to some inspired play, the group finished in second place and took home silver medals. Congratulations, Spartans! York Tech's Hot Rodders of Tomorrow (HROT) teams will be hosting a car wash at York Tech from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on May 18.     < Back Athletics Updates Below are the sports highlights from the past week. Please consider supporting our student-athletes by attending an upcoming game, match, or event. Schedules for all of our teams can be found at this link . Track & Field The boys' track team had a big week. First, it was named the winner of the 2023-24 spring YAIAA Sportsmanship Award for track and field. Additionally, Eli Steel and Pearce Alleyne medaled at the District III meet, which qualified them for the PIAA State Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University. During the state meet, Pearce Alleyne finished eighth in the state of Pennsylvania for discus. (View a picture of Pearce and Coach Landis during the PIAA championships at this link .)
