Tuesday was Twin/Opposite Day , Wednesday was Pink Day to promote breast cancer awareness, Thursday was Decades Day , and Friday was Spartan Swag and Pep Rally Day. We look forward to sharing photos and videos from the pep rally soon. Thank you to everyone who showed off their Spartan pride as we geared up for this weekend’s homecoming festivities! Need to Know Homecoming Traffic — PennDOT has scheduled repairs for the Queen Street bridge over I-83 to start this Friday, Oct. 13. Unfortunately, the work will coincide with our homecoming festivities, including the Saturday morning football game and Saturday evening dance. We anticipate potentially significant traffic issues around York Tech as a result of the construction. More information can be found on our website at this link . Flickr In, Twitter Out — York Tech recently discontinued its use of X (formerly known as Twitter) and added Flickr , which is a photo-sharing platform. Going forward, York Tech will use Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, and YouTube as its primary social media platforms. Game of the Week Oct. 14 — Homecoming Football Game, @York Tech, 10 a.m. Details about all of the upcoming athletics contests are available by viewing the schedules for York Tech teams and York Country Day School teams . Spartans in Action Guest Speakers — Thank you to Jamie Rockmore and Kirk Strausbaugh with APX York Sheet Metal for visiting Mr. Yarrison's welding class on Oct. 11. They observed the students at work and gave constructive feedback about what they saw. Additionally, Ms. Rockmore and Mr. Strausbaugh answered questions and provided great industry insight. [Photos ] Interacting with Nature — Mr. Barton and Mr. Smith’s co-taught Environmental Science class had a unique and teachable moment last week thanks to a friendly garter snake. The reptile was found on school property, and students were able to observe and hold it. [Photos ] Senior Night — York Tech students are able to play soccer through our partnership with York Country Day School. Last week, the boys' team celebrated Senior Night with a win over Dayspring Christian Academy. We're proud of this awesome group, which represents both schools very well! [Photos ] HROT in Hanover — Our Hot Rodders of Tomorrow (HROT) teams performed in Hanover on Saturday, Sept. 30. Check out these clips taken by a few of the team members. Those who attended the event were able to watch an impressive display of engine-building skills! Athletics Updates — The field hockey team played Fairfield on Oct. 9, which was also Senior Night, and earned a 2-0 victory. Later that evening, the girls’ volleyball team defeated Northeastern in five sets. Our cross country teams celebrated Senior Night on Oct. 10, and both squads ended the season with winning conference records. Field hockey was at it again on Oct. 11 when it beat Waynesboro to earn its tenth win of the season and a possible shot at qualifying for Districts! < Back Class of 1979 Reunion The Class of 1979 will celebrate its 45th reunion on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024. The event will be held from 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. in the Virgil Room at the South County Brewery, which is located at 170 Crossway Drive, York, PA 17402. The cost is $60 per person. (Guests who opt out of the buffet may join from 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m. at no cost.) The deadline to RSVP is Sept. 12, 2024. < Back Athletics Updates Below are the sports highlights from the past week. Please consider supporting our student-athletes by attending an upcoming game, match, or event. Schedules for all of our teams can be found at this link . Track & Field The boys' track team had a big week. First, it was named the winner of the 2023-24 spring YAIAA Sportsmanship Award for track and field. Additionally, Eli Steel and Pearce Alleyne medaled at the District III meet, which qualified them for the PIAA State Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University. During the state meet, Pearce Alleyne finished eighth in the state of Pennsylvania for discus. (View a picture of Pearce and Coach Landis during the PIAA championships at this link .) < Back Two-Hour Delay on Feb. 3 Due to potentially hazardous road conditions, York Tech’s high school and Adult and Continuing Education Center will operate on a two-hour delay schedule for Monday, Feb. 3, 2025 . The high school's two-hour delay schedule can be found at ycst.info/schedules24-25 by scrolling down to the third page. Buses will pick up students two hours after their normal pick-up times. Breakfast will be served. Custodial, maintenance, and food service employees should report at their normal times. All other staff members should arrive two hours after their regular start times. Neurodivergent Network Description Although not an official club, the Neurodivergent Network is available to students who have neurodivergent needs. This group can assist students with anxiety, ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, various processing disorders, and more. It meets bimonthly to connect and share with fellow classmates, improve/practice social skills, learn coping strategies, and brainstorm ways to educate others about what it means to be neurodiverse. During the two-day camp, current seventh-grade students from our 14 sending school districts will have an opportunity to experience hands-on activities in a number of technical programs. Breakfast and lunch are included at no cost to the participants. Eligible Participants All current seventh-grade students living in the following school districts are eligible to register. This process could take up to 72 hours to complete, and the site may be slower than normal during the transition. If you visit www.ytech.edu but are still being directed to the old site on or after July 2, please clear your browser's cache and try again. One important change to note is the creation of a student intranet, which will house most of the student-specific information that was previously located on the old website. (More information about the intranet will be given to students at a later date.) We hope the updated site will provide a better experience for current and prospective York Tech families! News & Notes National Awards — York Tech recently received two awards from the National School Public Relations Association. A 2023 NSPRA Award of Excellence was given for the Spartan Review newsletter, and the March 2023 students-of-the-month video earned the same award. Congratulations to everyone involved, especially the students who made this recognition possible! Broadband Survey — The Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development is asking all PA residents to complete this survey related to broadband connectivity and digital access. The anonymous information respondents provide will give vital support to the Commonwealth’s strategies to close the digital divide. Summer Newsletters — You may have noticed that the Spartan Review was not distributed last week. During the summer, this publication will be sent when there is enough important content. It will return to weekly distribution slightly before school starts in August. Summer Hours — York Tech remains open during the summer, but some departments use modified operating hours. < Back TSA Competition Success Twenty-five York Tech students competed in the Pennsylvania Technology Student Association Region III Conference on Saturday, Jan. 20. There were numerous top-three finishes (listed below), which helped most of our Spartans qualify for the state competition in April. < Back to EPG Contents NCAA DI and DII Student-Athlete Eligibility Students who want to compete in intercollegiate athletics at National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and Division II colleges are required to meet certain initial–eligibility requirements. All student athletics must register with NCAA Initial–Eligibility Clearinghouse ( www.eligibilitycenter.org ) and meet the standards as listed on their website. If you are planning to participate in college sports, contact your counselor. When planning their course selection, student athletes should be mindful of the requirements of the NCAA. The NCAA has strict guidelines to "qualify" a student to receive athletic scholarships and/or participate in NCAA Division I or Division II athletics at the collegiate level. Student athletes should review these criteria carefully at www.eligibilitycenter.org . Three of the main criteria for eligibility include: the number of "core" courses completed, the earned GPA in those "core" courses, and a sliding scale requirement regarding core course GPA and SAT or ACT scores. To help student athletes, York Tech high school courses, which have been approved as NCAA core courses, will have the [NCAA] text beside them in the Educational Planning Guide. Schedules for all of our teams can be found at this link . Baseball The JV baseball team faced Milton Hershey on Friday, May 3. Both teams played very well, but, when the dust cleared, our Spartans came out on top. Track & Field During the YAIAA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, May 8, both York Tech teams took home numerous individual and team honors. Tasiyah Johnson set two school records by breaking her own marks in the 400 and running the fastest leg of the 4x800 relay, which broke the school record by four seconds. Tasiyah also anchored the medal winning 4x400 relay team. Rhea Flores also ran on those two relays teams and broke the school record in the 800 by almost three seconds. The girls 4x100 relay team (Janiyah Newman-Scott, Kayden Parris, Aniyah Jones, Aaliyah Hall) also broke the school record.
